You all are contributing to my paranoia

I observe with bemused interest the discussions regarding the Stock Market crash predicted for this month.

I listen with interest about the conspiracy theories concerning the coming "incident" that will change the world as we know it (precipitating the stock market crash).

Then as I'm rolling oats this afternoon I have CNN on in the background and listen to Sen Craig's announcement that it is his "intent" to resign by Sept 30th. The way he emphasizes "intent" strikes me as him being very intentional in the use of that word. It is a weasel word. It is my intent to loose 20 pounds, mow the lawn this weekend and listen the next time my wife tells me about the personal lives of her co-workers. "Intent" often means that I am being forced to say that i will do this but I know fully well that I will not.

For the record, I continue to give my rational mind the benefit of the doubt. An attack will happen, the stock market will crash but I do not think that there is a conspiracy and I do not think we will know the date before hand. But...

today I wonder and wait. Is something coming down the pike that will cause us to forget about Craig and not notice if his intent does not become reality?

since this is a thread about paranoia, i thought i'd come here to share and indulge my most paranoid fantasies.

on the back country roads near napa, at 1 or 2 am in the morning, a few weeks ago, i saw a couple tractors pulling strange equipment. the drivers were wearing hazmat suits. at first i didn't believe my eyes, so i turned around a few minutes later to drive back and get a better look, and sure enough, that's what they were wearing. i tried following them to see what they were up to, where they were going, and they got visibly agitated. when that happened i got scared and drove away.

this weekend, the labor day weekend, the SF bay bridge is closed. there have been signs advertising this fact EVERYWHERE. i read somewhere that the bridge hasn't been closed for a long time. it brings to mind minnesota, and recent warnings from terror 'experts' that the next targets will be our transport infrastructure. it brings to mind the mysterious shutdowns of the towers before 9.11.

out by mather air force base, near sacramento, there are a bunch of housing developments (which are what took me out there). the roads leading into the base have recently been closed off. i read on a conspiracy site somewhere that mather is one of the sites planned for detention once the boot comes down.

my unscientific prediction therefore: the next incident will take place in northern california (probably elsewhere as well). my gut tells me it will be something spectacular - i'm thinking SF will get hit with a low yield nuke or dirty bomb, and all the bridges will come down too, trapping horrified denizens, maximizing panic and producing plenty of psychological effect for the cameras. i'm guessing the 'perpetrators' will turn out to be 'homegrown terrorists' of a sort - as this will be rich for propaganda. 'those left coast radicals (i.e. all who oppose this endless war) got what they deserved...let us not make the same mistake; let us resolve to recommit to our fearless leader, and stamp out dissent...'

Well there is a 50% chance it might happen and 50% change it might not.

How is that for odds? It's as about as good as any other prediction.

On the subject of paranoia, I'll remind all the long time posters here to go back to April of 2006. Everyone here was all tweaked out over Israel launching nukes. Remember? Very clear signs trended us in that direction. It could still happen, in fact Israel could have launched a strike 5 min ago. Oh well, 50% chance it might happen and 50% change it might not.

Reminds me of a scene in Billy Jack where the hippie kids are going into town to do some street theater and they are worried about getting their asses kicked by the locals. So Billy Jack tells Martin "What ever is going to happen tommorow will happen and there is not a damn thing you can do about it".

Face your fear, give it a 3 stooges eye poke followed by a deep chuckle. Then recognize the need to walk away from the doom for a day or two.
If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

I try my man yet fear is gone away from me...
While they would be eating me I would be laughing

Ok it is a "scary" picture if I was afraid of monsters yet the only monsters I am aware of is mankind and I aint afraid of no fucking mankind thus no :)

Now some of the lil fishies that washed up after the tsunami were fairly impressive heheh

My oldest daughter tells me she has a couple of these monsters under her bed. [smilie=eusa_shifty.gif]

So I explained to her how much monsters enjoy cookies and every night she should feed them with plastic toy cookies. In return the monsters will fill the basket above the fridge with more lolipops.

Along time ago I told my kids that daddy was the monster. Needless to say I never had to discipline my children that is until the day that they realized they were little monsters as well :)

Man, this shit should not be free and I should be getting paid!!!

My three year old son confided in me that he thought there was a Winnie the Pooh monster in his closet.

I'd like to see a Winnie the Pooh monster.

As far as paranoia goes, any time I am concerned about something farfetched I always hope someone can talk me out of it. It's when no one can come up with a good reason that something won't happen that I get worried.

That's how I got concerned about this whole PO thing in the first place. No one seems concerned about it, yet no one has any plausible explanation for why it's not going to be a complete disaster.

I suggest trying not to speak in absolutes unless you are absolutely certain of that which you speak thus we are concerned and many are doing and/or attempting to do something about it.

As far as an explanation for why it wont be a total disaster, no comment as it probably will be...
