It's summer and I've been sitting around, sipping bourbon and watching movies but it's time to get back to work. So I got this call from a school in a psychiatric hospital for troubled teens. They want me to come in on Monday. I worked there about a month ago. When the automated message goes out to get a substitute to cover for a day or so the job is described. This one gets the description "severely emotionally disturbed."

A lot of subs won't take such a job but it doesn't phase me. When I was there last time, when the pre-classtime meeting was over, the Principal asked me, "Do you know where you are?" I told him how I had already been there and had no problems. I kid you not, he said, "Do you want my job?" heh heh. So I went into the room and was given a serious briefing by the staff who told me what to expect from each of the problem kids. I spent my day talking with these problem kids talking about Astronomy and Hydrogen bombs and E=mc^2. It was an enjoyable day. One of the kids said he wants me to take him to Tijuana when he turns 18. Probably wants me to show him the cool strip clubs where the girls are eager and the no-touching rules don't apply. Made me feel like that Jack Nicholson character from
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Of course these are just the sort of games kids who get into a place like this will play. But I can take a joke. So anyway, these adults there didn't just call in for another sub. They called the district and asked for my number. That makes me happy.
