"Lights Out" A good read, and somewhat fitting

Unread postby Specop_007 » Sat 15 Jan 2005, 12:39:03

So, a guy on frugalsquirrels.com has been writing a story. Very good, although its not yet finished. It disucsses an "TEOTWAWKI" type scenario. Rather then the power going out due to PO its due to a widespread nuclear EMP burst. Makes for a very good read, and might give you an insight as to what it would be like if everything went to hell in a handbasket.
As a side, frugal squirrels is also a good website filled with good stuff to buy, documents and books of which some are free for download and others you can buy and a good forum too.

You can download the pdf here

Umm maybe it's just me, but I downloaded the pdf and got nothing but blank pages, except for the quote marks. What's up with that?

It's not a bad story. And even though I'm not too fond of the politics over at Frugal Squirrels, they've got tons of useful resources.

Lets not be selective in our hatred of politics. They cant be any worse at Frugals then they are here, or in our government for that matter. Or in the Middle East, or North Korea for that matter. In fact, I'm planning on starting Spec land. Anyone wanna move to Spec land?

I don't hate politics. I'm actually involved in several lefty organizations. It's Frugal's flaming right-wingnut politics that gets to me. And now you've given me an idea! Who wants to move to Kiddiestan?

Maybe somebody could write a story about a fututristic War between the citizens of Kiddiestan and Specland. It could lift an idea from Jonathan Swift and make the War over whether to open an egg from the big end or the little end. (From Gulliver's Travels; brilliant satire of left-right / us-them politics.)

I read Lights Out & I found it to be excellent. Athe·ists & Liberals be warned! It contains Christians, violence & guns.

I like Frugal Squirrels; I am there almost every day. They have a lot of Libertarians :-D , but they also have Bushites too.

My favorite quote thus far:

[i]"We believe that America has been on the wrong
path for quite some time now. The hard workers such as yourselves are no longer rewarded for your
efforts, but instead are punished with high taxes and restrictions on your God given rights. Instead, the
lazy are rewarded by a system that becomes more and more socialistic every year. Entitlement
programs, funny name…somehow people who refuse to work are entitled to food, housing,
education…everything that you work so hard to provide for your families. Anyway, entitlement
programs are bankrupting this country both financially and morally. Our government had become the
problem instead of the solution. We knew that sooner or later something would happen that would
throw this country into turmoil. We want to make sure that people come out on the other side that can
put America back on the right track. People that share the philosophy that a man who doesn’t work
shouldn’t eat. People that feel like government should serve the people, not the other way around.â€

[i]"He then looked in the
cab. It looked like a five gallon can of red paint had exploded. The driver was lying over in the seat and
most of the left side of his head was gone. The passenger was holding the right side of his stomach and
a dark red oozed out from between his fingers. Mark could see a sawed off double barrel shotgun lying
on the floor board next to the bleeding man. He slowly walked around the truck, careful to cover the
unfortunate attacker with his .45, opened the door and retrieved the gun that was covered in a sticky goo.
Mark just stared at the man and started to shake. By then the guards had gotten to the truck.
“Are you OK?â€
