Steady as she goes...

... will be the theme of next week according to this optimistic survey by MarketWatch. This brief article certainly helps temper the negative herd-feeding hysteria recently spewing forth across the various business news media.

Dissenting opinion:

Stocks to fall further as credit woes persist

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'U').S. stocks will continue to fall next week, in continuation of a sell-off that saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average experience its worst week in over four years, due to nervousness that the easy-money binge of the last few years has come to an end...

...stocks will remain vulnerable to any new signs of distress from hedge funds hit by their exposure to bad U.S. home loans, as well as from credit markets, where Wall Street firms and corporations are finding it harder and harder to obtain financing.

"We're finishing up earnings season and the general tone has been positive," said Owen Fitzpatrick, head of the U.S. equities group at Deutsche Bank. "But it's been overwhelmed by the whole subprime and credit-market issues."

I would cheer if the stocks could get shaved down past 12k that would give those republican cheer leaders something to choke on.

Hows your economy now assholes?

Last I looked it was the stock market going nuts, not the economy. Is your local economy much different than the low unemployment, low interest rate, declining housing value which makes it easier to buy a home environment that most of the country appears to be experiencing?

Bloomberg is now reporting that DJI and S&P futures are heading upwards! It looks like we'll probably manage a nice positive start to the week! :)

There'll be plenty of time for doom... but now isn't quite yet time.

Bloomberg also reported this:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'P')hilipp Vorndran, who manages $598 billion as investment strategist at Credit Suisse Asset Management in Frankfurt, said subprime defaults won't spread to higher-rated debt and predicted credit markets will stabilize.

``There is a good opportunity to move back to a bullish equity position in a month,'' Vorndran said. ``The stability of financial markets is not at risk.''

The futures were up on Friday morning too, so don't read anything into what they do.

We should know by Wednesday if a bottom has been reached in the current sell off.
The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.
