My desk job is such that I have frequent 30-60 second long pauses, and I have plenty of time to surf...
We stand here, as the light of other days surrounds us.

I don't surf at work because I do not work in an office, however I do check in here most days if I have the opertunity during my lunch hour which is variable. Usually lunch is an hour long block some time between 12 noon and 2 PM EDT, however today I didn't get to take lunch until 2:35 EDT.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I skip morning coffee nowadays and surf instead.
I have also stopped going out for lunch most of the days and take some time during lunch to surf.
Furthermore, I am working a lot on projects and workload jumps up and down. In down periods I can sometimes spend half the days surfing. It is almost embaressing as most colleagues are busy but nothing else for meto do (my role is quite different from everyone elses) and still I have managed to keep my job despite numerous rounds of retrenchements.
The good side is that I don't have to spend as much time surfing in the evenings and can have some "quality time" instead.

I don't surf at work because I never have time. Our breaks are 10 minutes long paid, and I have just enough time to get down a snack before returning back to work. If we get a 30 minute break, I'm busy eatting lunch. I just never have the time.

I surf at work because it is understood, if not articulated, that I am insurance. There is a very limited number of things I can do on any given night and I am here for those few nights when I am needed. I can not really be displaced because my very presence keeps bad things from happening.

I work with psych patients. If we leave the unit in their hands at night it would be a disaster. As it is they generally sleep (I am currently working with adolescents which is a sweet gig if you can get it). So I read Tolstoy, I plan for collapse, I write, I surf PO.com

Perhaps the population would be less swayed to socialism if we had fewer examples of socialism from our "Free Market Capitalists". -----fiddler dave
