What is going to power the train? I can see horses or biking(if I can get in super shape) as the only viable options of commuting.

Telephones? What is going to power all that without cheap oil? Mail may be a possibility, gotta wait weeks or months though for the letter to make it's way.

My parents don't even believe in global warming. Will peak oil show enough warning signs that will make them believers before it's too late? The best warning sign could be $10 gas, news that appears on TV and newspapers and parent's friends all talking about peak oil.

Electricity is not made with oil. In the US its mainly coal, gas and nuclear. As is in the rest of the world.
Peak oil is not an energy crisis. It is a liquid fuel crisis.

By people climbing around on power poles. Long distance transmission of electricity predates widespread civilian oil use.

Not that it really means anything, as fuel for utility cars is about as high marginal use of oil as one can imagine. They'll always have motor fuel.
