Do you think this is a waste of fuel?

What's on your mind?

And here is a constructive way to waste fuel, and a great way to teach kids about rocketry (mentioned on NASA's website)...

Whoosh Rocket
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OAgIdH142E
Don't use your shoe as a holder for the rocket like this idiot. Also wear gloves because the hot gases can burn your skin. Another simple way to make one of these is just one bbq skewer and a bottle...

This works, but isn't as impressive as larger designs.

This design works better then NASA's design and is easy to make. It is more stable, less complex, easier to blow out spent gas and it's more fuel efficient. The dents on the bottom store unburnt fuel for use for a second launch.

These more advanced designs also work better then NASA's...

Just take three bbq skewers and slip them under the skin of a 2 liter soda pop bottle. Maybe add some tape too. Take a 1/8 inch drill bit or a hot nail and make a hole in the bottom of the bottle. You can make a hole in the cap, but it works best with the hole on the bottom. Then spay in some hair spray or some 91% alcohol. Put on a glove. Shake the bottle and set it down on it's landing gear. Then place a lit match or bbq lighter to the hole. The rocket will shoot up a good 10-15 feet or shoot sideways 15-20 feet, depending on the angle you set it at. I've also made alcohol rocket cars and rockets with cool fins this way. When done, take off the cap and blow out the burnt gas in bottle, pour in a little more alcohol and shake up to fire again...
