US politics, what would ya want to see????

Unread postby phaster » Mon 16 Jul 2007, 18:06:07

I posted the question "below" on the experts board, hoping to get more of an insight into their politics, so thought I'd ask everyone else here what they would want to say to the american public if they could write a speech for president...

On my way back from picking up some stuff from home depot this afternoon, I was listening to NPR news about the presidential campaigns, and it struck me that each of them dem's and republicans are just trying to get there sound bytes thru to the public, there didn't seem to be anything of real substance or inspiration.

In high school and college I remember reading about how inspirational and well spoken some presidents were. With President Bush, I find no real thought or public speaking ability....

So my question is to any and all experts, if ya could write the next presidential inauguration speech, what would ya have the president say? Would it be something like this?

My fellow Americans,

Ronald Reagan said in his farewell address to the nation, America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon of light guides freedom-loving people everywhere. God blessed this land of ours and filled it with teeming people of all kinds living in harmony and peace; and they and their children built a nation with free ports that hummed with commerce and creativity.

We as a nation have faced many past challenges, such as forming a new nation, surviving a civil war, fighting a world war against Hitler and his intolerant policies, placing man on the moon, ending Communism and creating an inviting homeland where immigrants from around the world can start anew.

Yet today we as a nation face a challenge which our Forefathers never could imagine, protecting this nation and the world from the harmful effects of global warming and unsustainable natural resource use, by which I mean "peak oil."

For too long basic ignorance of scientific evidence about global warming and unsustainable natural resource use, has caused blinding anger and momentary fear among well intentioned individuals who did not understand that if these issues are not addressed, the light of this great nation will be extinguished from the face of this good earth.

Today, I challenge this great nation and its people to set aside petty politics and preconceived notions, which has caused this nation to become a house divided.

God, gave man the gift of intelligence and resolve, so we as a nation must use these gifts to find solutions to the harmful effects of global warming and unsustainable natural resource use, so that the light of this great nation will shine not only for our children, but their children's, children as well.

The task of saving America as well as this good earth for all mankind, will require our best scientific and economic minds to find difficult answers, for there are no simple solutions. No doubt this challenge will cause fear among people listening to my words. And the only thing we can be sure of is the task at hand will have some high personal costs.

It is only human nature to want to avoid and ignore trouble and danger, but in facing this greatest challange ever to our nation, let us remember that FDR said "there is noting to fear but fear itself" and the words of JFK who said "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country."

I also realize that the two party system pretty much has a political monopoly, but if ya could elect a presidental dream ticket

http://www.unity08.com/

who was enlightned about the problem of peak oil/global warming, who would you all support and why? Yeah I know this is a damn broad question, but I'd like some insight and your opinion on the odds if ya think politicans have the balls or brains to actually solve these major issues facing all of mankind.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('phaster', 'S')o my question is to any and all experts, if ya could write the next presidential inauguration speech, what would ya have the president say?

OK, I'll bite.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('President', 'M')y fellow Americans, terrorist forces are threatening the homeland now more than ever before in the history of our great country. We have dismantled the constitution and removed most of your rights and freedoms to protect you.

The recent Code Red Terror Alert forced us to suspend the constitutional government and declare martial law but terrorists of the homeland continue to wage war upon our freedoms. Please report any suspicious activity to your local FEMA representative. If a FEMA representative requests that you board a bus or train for relocalization efforts please comply.

Dismissed!

Americans will be so conditioned to people in uniforms there shouldn't be too many problems

Yep I'm all for a Lenin/Stalin scenerio these days....

Read "We The Living" by Ayn Rand - it was written as a screed against Communism, but really read the thing. The protagonist is set up as a student, a medical student no less, w/o crushing student loan debt. The family is fed as long as she shows up for classes. The family has to share their palatial place with some "peasants" who'd lived in mud huts before - oh boo hoo.

The protagonist does everything possible to piss off the regime but does not mind whoring for luxuries.

Things were not ideal. But things were better than they'd have been under capitalism which the Czars would have shortly discovered and gleefully starved 2X as many as the Soviets ever did.

My Fellow Americans,

Thank you for joining me this evening, for tonight represents a historical milestone in the history of our great nation.

I would like to start by revisiting some the policy changes that have occurred since I have assumed office.

As you all know, my first objective as president was to legalize marijuana with the Suburban Reclamation and Organic Marijuana Act. So far this project is an overwhelming success. The GAO now reports that 5 million acres of reclaimed suburban landscape is now growing high quality marijuana for it's use in cooking, smoking and fibers. Over 256,000 unemployed real estate agents, mortgage brokers, and car salesman are now gainfully employed in organic agriculture and the cultivation of high grade cannibas.

On the business front, we continue to revoke corporate charters at a brisk pace. Just last week the following companies were disbanded or prevented from doing business in the United States: Monstanto, Cargill, Eli Lily, Pfizer, Exxon Mobil, Bechtel and Microsoft. The employees of these corporations are currently making their transition in to the newly revived Civilian Conservation Corps.

On the war front, there is good news to report. The carpet bombing of the Middle East continues. Our first sorties consisted of dropping only condoms, but we have now added Hustler magazine, bags of cannibas and small bottles of Jim Beam and Jack Daniels. Tensions have eased greatly. The 101st Airborne, in an effort to gauge the success of this mission drew a cartoon of Mohammed and played it on Al Jazeera television. As of this date, there has been no reports of shootings, bombings or burnings in retaliation. They have really mellowed out over there. Our generals reported that the men of the middle east just needed to get laid, we listened and it worked. The troops will all be home by next Wednesday.

The redeployment of our troops to the Mexican border is going smoothly. No illegal entrants in the last six months have been reported. Furthermore, each and every campesino that makes it to the border is being given food, a rifle, ammunition and a pair of boots to return home and foment the long needed Mexican revolution. In a gesture of peace and goodwill towards both countries, George Bush and Vincente Fox are now sharing the same prison cell.

When it comes to environmental issues there is much to report. All of the US west of the continental divide has been declared a wilderness area. You are still welcome to live in this region, however all motorized transport is strictly forbidden on land, air or sea. It took me three weeks to get here tonight by mule train from the North Cascades. On Tuesday, I will be cutting the ribbon for the removal of the Glen Canyon Dam. A new day is dawning in America my friends. The reintroduction of grizzly bears, wolves and bison is proceeding at a brisk pace. The navy and coast guard continues its mission to destroy high seas driftnetters, factory trawlers and any other illegal fishing vessels and we are already beginning to see dramatic returns in salmon to west coast rivers. On a related note, all of the dams on the Columbia river are now removed, and the river once again runs wild and free.

One last item of great importance. I was elected on a single issue Peak Oil. As you know this is one subject that is on everyone's mind. My legislation to dissolve the federal reserve, our fiat currency and fractional reserve banking was important. It was not enough though. That is why after only three weeks in office I am dissolving the office of the president, the congress and the federal government in its entirety. Effective immediately.

Now please, go home, look after your family, friends, your farm and your community. Keep it simple and keep it local. Good Night and God Bless.

WOW.

Did you and I read the same book?

As for US politics, I'd like to see a real conservative elected. Someone who cares about the American people and not just his cronies and campaign contributors. A conservative who cares about conservation (like Teddy Roosevelt) and wants to support American middle class workers instead of foreign special interests (like Lou Dobbs).

Baring that, anyone but Senator Clinton.

Sadly, I don't think there's anyone like that. And T.R. was not a real conservative, he was for all kinds of socialist stuff like food purity laws etc. T.R. was really every bit as socialist as F.D.R.
