New Worm Fatal

Unread postby manu » Sun 15 Jul 2007, 09:43:10

There was a discussion a few months ago about human parasites and some on this site, I won't mention names, didnt believe anyone had anything to worry about. Worry about this!

Hello there...
Sorry for butting into the discussion, but I think this is what he is refering to---> NYTimes
It was sort of interesting but the advertisement on the right of the Buddist Monks looking at the laptop was more entertaining.
I wonder if it was porn? NOT!

Lovely, another horrible way to die...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Great Lakes Worm Watch', 'I')n a strange twist, New Zealand flatworms, that feed on earthworms, have found their way to areas of England and Scotland where earthworms are native. They cause rapid decreases in the native earthworm populations which are important parts of their ecosystems.

This is what I thought the article would be about, perhaps we should open a new thread?

We are losing the bee and the earthworm. What a world we're leaving for our children...

As a resident of New Zealand, a country plagued by literally hundreds of pest plant and animal species from other countries that ravage our ecosystem, I consider the NZ flatworm a tiny bit of revenge on the world...and while we're on this strange worm themed thread, does anyone out there know much about parasites and the immune system? I remember reading something a while back about how the removal of parasites, including worms, from our bodies which has been achieved with modern medicine, seems to be related to the staggering rates of allergies and asthma in the 'western' world...It referred to a particular part of rural africa where such parasites were only just being eliminated now, and how these people were almost immediately experiencing allergies for the first time...so if you've got a touch of hayfever this spring, maybe you do worse than a couple of nice juicy tapeworms...
