As a resident of New Zealand, a country plagued by literally hundreds of pest plant and animal species from other countries that ravage our ecosystem, I consider the NZ flatworm a tiny bit of revenge on the world...and while we're on this strange worm themed thread, does anyone out there know much about parasites and the immune system? I remember reading something a while back about how the removal of parasites, including worms, from our bodies which has been achieved with modern medicine, seems to be related to the staggering rates of allergies and asthma in the 'western' world...It referred to a particular part of rural africa where such parasites were only just being eliminated now, and how these people were almost immediately experiencing allergies for the first time...so if you've got a touch of hayfever this spring, maybe you do worse than a couple of nice juicy tapeworms...
