If we die, let's leave offspring!

If we humans are going to die, we should do a project to leave some offspring!

Maybe we can modify jellyfish to carry human genes to give them a higher level of intelligence and a jumpstart to becoming an advanced species.

Or perhaps we can focus on a microscopic organism and tinker with it while controlling the environment to in essence, "selectively breed" on a microscopic level to produce the results we want.

We could create a mobile extremophile, capable of photosynthesis, or capable of consuming food laying around.

The extremeophile could modified to have the ability of a slime mold, so that it can form a large mass of cells from just a few cells.

The organism could be given human DNA that would give it the capacity to produce small neuron like structures, so that as slime mold it could have basic cognitive skills.

Hopefully, this could produce a lifeform that would be able to survive extreme environments over land or sea, while being able to have excessive thinking abilities when it needed them, or was under stress.

Another advantage is that because the lifeform would have such a short breeding cycle, it could rapidly evolve.

The lifeform could grow and survive as the planet died, and then when the planet got more hospitable for complex lifeforms, and thinking lifeforms, the slime mold could simply move together.

A huge number of these creatures would get together, to create one individual. Besides the fact that it would provide an evolutionary pathway for this organism to rapidly become an intelligent species, it would also allow the slime creature to become as intelligent as it needed by simply piling on more and more slime mold creatures.

The end result would be that this creature could become a genius with very little effort. It would simply need to grow a few more cells and it would have more brain power.

So it could easily become more intelligent than humans, because of the sheer size of the number of these lifeforms piling together(even if it's brain was much, much less advanced, there could be so many more processors, that it could compensate) it could develop advanced technology.

It would then be able to become the most advanced species on the planet, and hopefully, it could evolve to become capable of transfersing the stars.

What do you think?

Ha, that's funny, I was just about to ask, "Kylon, what brand of LSD have you been taking lately?"

Well, OK.

Though, perhaps genetic engineering can get us something that sequesters atmospheric carbon and oceanic methane, and thereby saves us from an otherwise almost-certain catastrophe of slate-wiping proportions. Yeah I've been praying for miracles lately, and that would qualify.
