Cop Watch LA

Unread postby Micki » Wed 11 Jul 2007, 22:38:58

Many people are worried that police (especially US) have been getting more abusive and violent in recent times.

Sure they have a tough job and deal with a lot of scum bags, but what makes them police and not thugs is the ability to take moral high ground.

What is particularly worrysom is the thought that this may be a deliberate change allowed by the higher powers in order to shape policemen and their victims for the new world order.

For this reason I would like to plug the following website that follows (and attempts to get film evidence) of police brutality in Los Angeles.

There's also the ACLU, a good group that gets stronger as more people join.

We not only have our cops, but we have private security guards ("rent-a-cops") that are even worse. I laugh at the news story that Wal-Mart is going to get tougher on younger shoplifters, that's considered a story, but the fact that they regularly KILL adults shoplifters by holding down on the hot concrete outside until burns/suffocation causes them to die, is not considered news.

I did a quick check of Cop Watch, I think they are a racist organization. I say this because there are posts there advocating cops "shooting niggers" and "niggers won't be able to do their many crimes when they are 'strange fruit'" (means hanging, lynched, from a tree). Since these messages have been on there a while it must be assumed they are approved of by the people running Cop Watch.

Cop Watch may be an organization against police violence as long as you are white or hispanic, but until they advocate protection from police brutality across all races, I have no time for them.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')any people are worried that police (especially US) have been getting more abusive and violent in recent times.

All you have to do is go to Latin America and observe the police. Corrupt to the bone.

I was stopped by a "cop" in Tijuana who was wearing a scarf around his neck and a yankees ball cap. He got my watch, and I was able to walk for taking a leak behind a dumpster in an alley.

Now extrapolate. If you import Latin America in to your country what do you get? You get Latin America in your country, including an increasingly violent and corrupt police force.

In Brazil, if someone commits a crime against you. The cops will basically ask "hey, do you want us to rub this guy out? No problem." If the cops don't ask it's certainly easy to find someone else who will.

We can't import the country of Mexico and El Salvador and not expect to have everything else that goes with it.
But how the world turns. One day, cock of the walk. Next, a feather duster.

Off topic a bit here, but in defense of the Tijuana cops, they earn around $10.00 per day as a starting wage. Try raising a family or even living alone on $250.00 per month in a big city. Oh sure, they could hop the fence or try their luck in a border industry, but a police career path in Mexico has hope of a much higher paying job in the future.

These 'shakedowns' btw can often save the 'offender' fines and court outcomes. I would much rather hand over $20.00 or $50.00 to a local cop than pay a $225 fine plus suffer increased insurance rates.

Some advice if you're heading to Mexico is to obey all traffic laws and don't hang out in dark alleys. Plus keep a 20 and a 50 ready in different pockets away from your main (hidden) cash stash in case you screw up and accidentally blow a red light. :)

I am a FTO in the industry. I am located in a US/Mexcio border county. I have 14 years on the force full time and have an additional 5 years of volunteer experience. The deputies graduating the academy are currently the most docile (relatively speaking- in regards to using force) that I have ever seen. In my county, all uses of force (to include pointing a Taser) are reported in detail and reviewed by supervisors.

IMHO, the police are only a reflection of the society they patrol. Increase the violence on the street and you will have increased police violence. If you live in Mayberry, your local police may write tickets & rarely draw their gun their whole career. In large inner-city wastelands (such as Los Angeles), the police point their weapons at people every night. I would call parts of Los Angeles a war zone and the police act accordingly (right or wrong, a product of their environment).

The corruption issue: In my area corruption is minimal. I don’t even see it on my level (I am only guessing some exists on the local political level). However, if our economy erodes, corruption will grow into a serious issue. If the police are not paid enough, they will forced to “supplement’ their income. The thought of policing in a third world country, with third world pay scares me.

I guess you haven't been watching if you bring up a camera in NY nowadays.
You should spend a bit more on prisonplanet.com to see what is happening all over the country, not just round the gang turfs.

Next thing you know they'll be ripping beating hearts out of chests!

Or something like that.

Jato's approach sounds closest to reality - you get the police force that reflects your society, locally anyhow. Urban forces are going to be prepped for gang warfare while rural fuzz has the occasional gun nut to worry about.
