Went and saw the movie, Transformers

Unread postby Falconoffury » Wed 04 Jul 2007, 16:09:03

I watched the transformers cartoon when I was very young, and I had some time, so I went and saw the movie last night.

I have never had my expectations so far exceeded in a movie. This is not a kiddie flick. It is live action, people die, and modern day military weapons and hardware is a big part of the movie. This is one of the most over the top military action movie's I've ever seen, and I'm not just talking about the transformer robots. The US armed forces makes a very strong showing here. It blew my socks off. I personally guarantee that anyone who hates sci fi, but loves modern military action will forgive the sci fi aspects and love this movie. I will now go and reevaluate my favorite movies of all time list.

I'm going to miss this kind of stuff after the crash. This movie was a labor of love.

I came out of that movie, sat down in the car next to my wife. She asked, how was it? I simply answered... Wow.

I'm going to see it again.

I'm sorry, did I miss something? A crash? What crash? Please enlighten me!

I'm sure if you rig up a couple of bycicles to generate the power for your TV and DVD recorder you will be able to watch the film as much as you like in the future, as long as you keep peddling :)

Would you classify it as Cornucopian Doom?

I have heard the new Die Hard movie is good too.

A friend is talking about seeing one or the other, I said last time I saw a movie (The Flying Scotsman) it was $10 and that was for a matinee.

The hype is that the special effects are really something. Supposedly, we haven't seen anything like this before. Are they all they're cracked up to be?

I must admit that the Transformers movie was better than I expected and my engineering friends that saw it also said the same thing. The movie is certainly darker than the animation we saw as kids but that is how movies usually go. The movie is 2/3 aimed at adults with serious events and about 1/3 aimed at kids and young adults with some campy issues. Definitely good support for this movie from the US Armed Forces unlike Independence Day. I guess transforming aliens stored in a dam are less of a threat than Area 51 aliens that have no redeeming qualities and therefore get better support from the US military, or maybe the Transformer movie producers talked smoother.

I will never be able to look at my Nokia cell phone the same way after this movie. Nokia's transform into cute but bad-ass battle crabs. Perfect for home defense if you can train them.

Naw, end of the world really isn't ever in doubt. I'd classify it as classic. Simply Classic. Like, empire records style classic. Actually, if you've ever seen the movie the iron giant, it stole a scene from there that was hilarious.

Anybody notice that the people friendly "auto-bot" transformers in this movie were all vehicles made by General Motors, and that the particular GMC vehicles featured are the worst gas-guzzlers on the road?

The movie also contained the usual pro-car culture propaganda such as: the automobile is your best friend, your ticket to freedom, it will help you get hot babes, it protects you from danger, etc. The autobot transformer concept has also been extended into a GM television advertising campaign. It's clear that Steven Spielburg sold out long ago and has found his calling making TV commercials for environmental unfriendly corporations like GM.

In the 1950's Los Angeles had one of the most advanced electric rail public transit systems in the world called Pacific Electric. Then GMC bought the transit system and proceeded to rip up 2000 miles of rail tracks and destroyed the electric rail car infrastructure. As a result, GMC transformed the blue skies of Los Angeles into one of the most polluted cities in the world.

I would like to see GM transform itself into a different type of organization. Because right now GM really sucks and their lagging sales prove it.

Yes, I did notice that even before the movie came out. Transformers is nothing but good old Merican propaganda. Look at the theme of the movie: US military is the most bad-arse in universe, car culture is supreme, if you disagree you are an evil alien robot communist. This is not even a movie it is a damn commercial for the US army, GMC trucks, and mindless consumerism paid for through massive distruction and violence which movies like this aim to desensitise you to.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'I')s this going to be a franchise?

Bet the house on it

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')orldwide, director Michael Bay's sci-fi epic has grossed $246.1 million, even though it has yet to open in about 60% of overseas markets.
