$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('IslandCrow', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', 'I') don’t know, the Indians called spring the Starving Time. No stores, no harvest.
Summer is when I see my hope rising...the garden is growing, it is warm and light, the heating is off, and being so far north one needs eye shades at night not electric lights!
Our peak electricity loads are in the cold of winter, not summer (we don't need air conditioning). However, the local economy is dependent on the summer guests. [Off the topic...one hope here is the development of cycle tours, that will help keep some holiday activities going even if fuel gets higher in price. I already see whole families on bikes with camping gear strapped on the back. For the first 40-50 km from the city there are cycle paths alongside the main road ].
A summer or winter crash? Depends on location and local weather patterns. For us it would most likely be in the cold of winter (not enough supply to meet demand) or one of the storms of early autumn (bringing down the electricity cables). However, in the long run I agree with Pops...Spring will be the time of most deaths. In the past it used to be, and will likely be so again.
I think Finland too will crash in summer, eventually. You're not immune to global warming; in fact, the warming will be proportionately worse at higher latitudes. Countries least adapted to hot summers may have the most trouble adapting. The vast Finnish forests could be destroyed by insects and fire, for one thing. You could start having water problems, a real novelty in Finland I'm sure.
