How long will this forum be around?

Explain your answer.

Polls are fun! I enjoy them while they're here. Rare age we live in, I say enjoy it to the fullest. :)

I did this same poll a few months ago. IIRC the majority felt it would be around for a few more years.

Websites require an Internet maybe?

Hey, wait! You're not saying something might happen to the Internet, are you? 8O

Wow, couple votes for 20 years. Even the USGS won't care by then.

I voted for 2 - closed due to posing a National Security Threat. Fill 'er up, Sheeple!

In that case, sorry for the duplicate thread, I guess this one can be closed or the two merged somehow. Can you link me to it?

On october 17 2008 this and virtually all other websites will cease to operate as George W. Bush is declared under state of emergency the Supreme comander.

The internet will need to be shut down in order to protect americans from terroristic ideals being promoted on the web.

Americans will cheer as George Bush makes them safe once again.

Seriously, I voted 20+ years as I think and hope that PO won't mean the end of the world, and not of the internet either. This place will hopefully always remain a place with interesting people with differing views and interests on the whole range of issues that are discussed here today. And there will always be more than enough new topics to be discussed, even as PO will become part of the history books rather than the obscure and ignored issue that it still is today.

I am willing to place a wager of 200.00 on my prediction.

Any takers that towards the end of next year, George Bush will shut down all of the not so "Supportive" websites after he is declared supreme comander?

Sure. I'll take that wager.

Your prediction that Bush will shut down nonsupportive websites after he is declared supreme commander* is ridiculous.

Are you betting 200 in dollars or Euros or beers? 8)

*Note: The President is the ex officio Commander in Chief of all US forces under the constitution right now, but I assume your fantasy is that Bush will assume some kind of dictatorial powers next year, right? 8)

I think...
that the PO forums would probably close because of financial/traffic/etc issues rather than the 'net going down

20 years from now, cached pages from here will still live on legacy servers around what remains of the Net. A few geeks, university students and exiles will keep the fires alive through a patchwork network of scavanged equipement. It will be slower, mostly inaccessible and userunfriendly

On the positive side, almost no one emails hawking \/|A6RA or Home Mortgage ReFi loans...

Course im kindof a pessimist at times.

1 year I say ! Run for the hills ! :)
I see : global warming and draught - they just announced that bread will double it's price here in Romania by september.
We will have to import grains - from some country that has more than they need, I hope there will be enough surplus
Also I hear about oil running out on BBC and CNN, and about the USA attacking Iran. And about a coming depression which will mean that cities become meaningless
http://paimei01.blogspot.com/
One day there will be so many houses, that people will be bored and will go live in tents. "Why are you living in tents ? Are there not enough homes ?" "Yes there are, but we play this Economy game". Now it's "Crisis" time !Too many houses! Yes, we are insane!
