Oil spills into Kan. river as flooding continues Thousands of evacuated citizens wait for waters to recede in Plains states
OSAWATOMIE, Kan. - An oil spill added to the misery caused by widespread flooding Monday as thousands of evacuees in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas waited for water to recede from their homes.
… A pumping malfunction during the weekend allowed 42,000 gallons of crude oil to escape from the Coffeyville Resources refinery into the swollen Verdigris River in south-central Kansas, producing a floating slick that could be seen and smelled from the air.

A mere thousand barrels.

However, this situation is pretty serious. This refinery was producing somewhere in the neighborhood of 50Kbbl/day of unleaded.

In 20 days, this will equal one million barrels lost from inventory.

19 days, really, since this place went down yesterday.

Also there is no doubt some finished product in the storage tanks that cannot be accessed. All of this has a pretty good chance to show up as shortages in the middle of the country.

OK. Am I the only one that thought this thread was going to be about a blonde convention?

No
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

I was actually quite startled with the prospect of 42,000 gals lost, and was hoping to be part of the search party.
