I don't know much about the stock market or economics. But something just doesn't seem right about the latest rally on wall street. Were in a War thats costing billions of dollars with no end in sight. Were at the end of a credit cycle. The housing market and values are going down , and nobody really knows how far it will drop. There is a energy crisis brewing which includes the costs of trying to reverse global warming........How many more cars, computers, tvs, ipods, can people buy/ I just dont get it. Something is rotten in denmark.................

Exactly. Something is rotten in the USA.

I just well, I guess I can say I've lost my small business. Hey presto, as of August First I'm not spending $1000+ on rent, I'm turning my car in to the loan company so no more car payments and gas, no more buying a new computer every year and a half, food budget will go way down, and so on. Plus I don't have a ghost of a chance of paying off my debt incurred during the time I ran my biz so they can just try getting blood out of a turnip. This may not be fun but I'm making a nice little crater in the economy here.

There is a great deal of uneasyness yes.

Not My Blood, it's not my choice! It was probably still a choice about 7 years ago, I could have either gotten out of debt or run my biz on a debt-free basis, but after that, I kept going the way I was and the rusult is an inivitable financial crash.

What's interesting though is since the financial crash was *going* to happen, whatever "wealth" or "growth" my staying in business and paying my rent etc have been, have been false. It's appeared I was doing OK but I was actually dying of financial cancer.

this is interesting when you realize a lot of small businesses are being run this way. Everything looks OK but they could collapse and collapse FAST at any time.

I understand. I dont know how small businesses survive anymore????

Due to reasons I won't get into. (medical, family) A few years ago I took out a heloc to pay for some expenses. I had planned on moving and selling the house anyway, So I figured I would pay off the debt when I sold the house. What a fuckin mistake that was. I knew it was probable the housing market would cool and all the price gains would be wiped out. But I didnt think I wouldnt be able to sell the house. And thats exactly whats happening; Now, I can manage, but I have to watch every penny. No more trips to the caribean, or eating at fancy restaurants every night of the week. The "wiggle room" is gone. Now, if I lost my job for any reason, I wouldn't last long. My fear is the housing collapse will continue and be worse than anybody thought. The values keep plummenting. Then I will be upside down when you include the heloc. I don't think I'm the only one in this position. And I'm doing well. But like I said, the wiggle room or saeft net is tightening by the month. And if I can't sell the house, I'm stuck.

Irresponsible, you say? Maybe, but I had a legitmate/very good reason for taking out the loan. And it was so easy. Hook , line and sinker. Like I said, I never imagined I wouldnt be able to sell the house and break even. I always knew the gains would be depleted like the stock bubble in the late nineties.

Your situation seems to be endemic to society; you've overextended yourself to the point that you had insufficient savings and/or insurance to cover whatever "family" situation that you failed to mention, yet found phunny money in the form of HELOCs to help subsidize your lavish (as in, Caribbean vacations, dining out incessantly) lifestyle, all the while counting on rapid home price appreciation to bail your ass out. Perhaps most disheartening, you seem like a level-headed person who intrinsically knows about the fluctuations of markets and capital, but let your actions obviate your thoughts and get the best of you. Your situation, while not enviable, has not deteriorated to the point of you being "stuck" (your words) in your house, but rather to the point that your pride precludes you from selling your home for a wash or a slight loss. Well, forgive me if I am at a loss of tears for someone expecting to subsidize their lifestyle at the expense of the next crop of fools to sign on the dotted line. Real estate is a racket, was a racket, and will always be a racket.

What I don't understand is why you came here to post? If you are looking for empathy, you're not likely to find it among the regulars here. Most have been portending the current disaster for years, and making preparations for it - you know, while you were busy sipping coladas in the Caribbean.

Emerson - don't waste your time with NotmyBlood - it appears he has extended his welcome at LATOC.

I was bored and priming him for his traditional dumbass hands thrown in the air rebuttal - I could have set a stop watch to that response.

He's a troll

You can't win with him...he JUST DOES NOT AND WILL NEVER GET IT.

The world is his oyster.

You guys are something else. Attack, Attack, Attack. From that half a paragraph youve decided to attack me for what I'm not even sure?????????????????

* you didnt read the post and your jumping to all kinds of assumptions(typical)

* I was simply trying to relate to I_Like_Plants on current financial situations. The title of the thread is "It’s Official: The Crash Of The U.S. Economy Has Begun"

you've overextended yourself to the point that you had insufficient savings and/or insurance to cover whatever "family" situation that you failed to mention, yet found phunny money in the form of HELOCs to help subsidize your lavish (as in, Caribbean vacations, dining out incessantly) lifestyle,

I havent overextended myself? I need to work , true. It used to be I had at least a year before I needed to find a new job, thats been reduced by a few months. But , how you could assume I overextended myself is beyond me. I had plenty of savings, and still do; I don't touch my savings unless it necessary. Look I coulde go on an explain how a nephew was sick and didnt have insurance , blah blah blah but I dont want to. This has got way to personal, I was simply trying to illustrate how economy is "tightening" and that vacations and fine dining will have to be scaled back.

Your situation, while not enviable, has not deteriorated to the point of you being "stuck" (your words) in your house, but rather to the point that your pride precludes you from selling your home for a wash or a slight loss

Again, did you read the thread, I CAN'T SELL THE HOUSE. NO BUYERS. Even if I did lower the price , I dont think it would make much of a difference. Read the thread. Stop assuming. And for your info, since youve decided to jump all over me, I have more than enough in savings to cover any loss in real estate. I just don't want to go that route? Understand? Dig?

I was trying to add to the thread my personal situation and how I'm being effected by the current ecomomic uncertainty.

What I don't understand is why you came here to post? If you are looking for empathy, you're not likely to find it among the regulars here, most of have been portending the current disaster for years, and making preparations for it.

Do you really think I'm looking for empathy? or sympathy? From people Ive never met on an internet message board?

Its great that your making preparing. But Ive always lived full tilt. If you want to save and prepare and live frugally so that one day you'll be prepared for something that might happen, thats great, good for you;

Me? When I have a chance to enjoy life I take it. Having a fruity drink , with a little umbrella, on a beautiful island with a beautiful girl, is my idea of living life to its fullest. However , now , instead of doing that 4 or 5 times a year, I'll do once or twice.

Yeah, matt banned for making a joke about how future generations of Canadiens will be servants for Americans after Shell figures out how to make a profit from the Oil Shale in Colorado.

I typed it in response to some rampant anti-american posts. I dont think matt likes it when you post info about anything regarding peak oil being solvable. Anyway, I probably deserved it, I couldnt stand the anit - american sentiment. I know America has its problems, but when people put swasitica's on the American flag it pisses me off to no end.....You read some of the stuff over there about how bad America is?

anyway, either I did explain myself very well or you didnt understand my post. You all jumped to some assumptions and just ran with it...........jumped all over me, like you were just waiting for something.................I dont get it, its like your angry at this average person youve conjured up in your mind by reading all this shit on the internet.

The fact is , people have lifes to live, bills to pay. Not all people who get into financial trouble are bad people. And if its going to get as bad as you all think it is, then why not go out and spend and run up as much debt as you can??????

Geez you guys lighten up - NotMyBlood said he took out the HELOC, and lost his wiggle room, not took out the HELOC and used the money to go to the Caribbean. he got the HELOC, found out he can't sell the house, and had stopped going to the Caribbean etc probably months before he got the HELOC is not a year or so.

Yes, looking back, I could have done the things I did using credit, without using it, by saving up for 6 months or buying the same thing used or anything. And I didn't. Looked reasonable at the time, was NOT reasonable, not at all.

You guys don't need to attack NotByBlood, he's already in his own personal hell.

I'm not attacking him; I just think "personal hell" is a relative term, especially considering he's sitting on a house that isn't upside down yet, minus the HELOC. Hell, this could be the best time for getting out that there will ever be for people like him; cut minor losses and walk away.

Well I didn't want to type a long post but yeah, given that real estate is tanking, NotMyBlood would be wise to get out while he can, get what equity he can out of the place, rent for a while, then buy again when RE is fully tanked.
