While nothing lasts forever I bet you they could auction this relic and make a good deal of money on it. What looks like devestation to a reporter doesn't look all that bad to a restorer, at least they have the specs for the car and all the peices, even if they are non-functional.

Time capsuals can be a real blast from the past, but people need to excercise some common sense designing and building them so that flooding doesn't occur. Reminfds me of Geraldo opening up capones safe after it had been filled with water for 50 years.

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'a')n advanced product of American industrial ingenuity

Ironic that this industrial ingenuity did not extend itself to concrete technology.

If the same thing were to be done today, no problem to encase the whole thing in one of those big plastic water tanks. Those things will last forever (if you keep them out of the sun) and are watertight.

Also ironically, if the same thing were to be done today, no issue on rust either, since a lot of the car is made from plastic.
