First off, fuel taxes pay for the roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, and overpasses that cars use on a daily basis.

Or should bio-diesel drivers be given free roads to drive on at everyone else's expense?

Why should anyone get away with using a service but not paying for it?

I suggest leaving the 30 cent/gallon tax in place for bio-diesel but increasing the petroleum based diesel tax to, say, 130 cents/gallon.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('smallpoxgirl', 'W')hat a leach. Dude should darned well be fined. He's using just as much petroleum as anybody else. The petroleum he's using is the dyed (untaxed) diesel that drove the tractor that grew his soybeans. Biodiesel is just an energy shell game. It's just a way of hiding your petroleum usage so you can act all superior. If he doesn't want to pay the taxes, he should stop using the roads that they pay for.

Don't know about soybeans, but according to some studies i've seen rapeseed biodiesel has between 2.5:1 and 4:1 EROEI ... and the energy invested isn't all from oil.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('RonMN', 'T')his is equivelent to...you grow your own tobacco...you smoke it by yourself...and you're arrested for not paying tobacco taxes.

Ohh for god's sake. He didn't grow his own soybeans. He bought the oil in a big jug at Costco.
