Kunstler comes off as the cranky old guy that has seen a lot and isnt concerned to keep telling you how much he hates what he sees. Not that he is too far off base with most of it.

Now for people that piss me off are those like Armory Lovins from RMI. His techno-optimism is irratating as is his placement of his energy efficient center in the middle of nowhere so all his employees have to drive.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'T')hom Hartmann probably isn't having much of an impact. What little I've heard of him on AirAmerica, he probably isn't any loonier than I am (which is damning with faint praise, certainly).

I generally kind of like him.

I like him too, sorta. "The Last Days of Ancient Sunlight" was my awakening to the Peak Oil scenario. It prodded me into doing some research of my own to confirm for myself whether he had something real or if it was another 'conspiracy theory'. I admit the book leans heavily to the 'spiritual' or 'metaphysical' in places but the basic premise of the imminent advent of peak oil and what it could mean was enough to scare my eyes open.

I also like Richard Heinberg. Heard him speak in Brisbane months ago.

Also Aaron, of course (the Hawkman cometh) and Montequest. I've got ecological training myself so I can understand where he's coming from. I don't like the message, but I understand.
Kind regards, Katkinkate

I like ALBERT Bartlett, great lectures. Malthus lives!

Heinberg - skinny guy who grows at least much of his own food, in his lectures you see a water pump in the background, plays the violin, and writes good stuff - he's the Fabio of the Dieoff.

And yet, it's hard to hate someone that says things like this:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('kunstler', 'O')f course, one would have to begin by asking what kind of society would worship clowns like Donald Trump in the first place -- and the answer would be: a society of envious slobs deluded into thinking that they could become the next Trump if only the Baby Jeezus would whack them over the head with a sock-full of silver dollars.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'A')t the top of the 'love' list should be William Catton. But how do you love someone who brings such a message of despair?

I'm reading Overshoot now, and inclined to agree with you, PMS.

I'd have to say I pretty much love the whole PO "community," from the smallest names to the biggest. Including folks with whom I sometimes sharply disagree.

I've never encountered such a bright, lively, well-informed bunch, and one with whom I resonate so strongly.

Sometimes I wish we could all move to the same county and start taking over there.

Yeah - I like all of us PeakOilers, too, no matter how moderate or how extreme. We all add to the mix and if we ever met on that twenty acres - what a CACOPHONY we would make.

I also like the Archdruid, John Michael Greer. Oh, and Colin Campbell, too.

Regards,

L.

Actually I said "county," not "country," jboogy. Although you could probably fit all peakoilers on the head of a pin.

Gotta love those boogying emoticons!

Sums it up nicely. I don't agree with everything Jim says, but damn near, and he is so entertaining to read; personally I find his acrimonious, in-yer-face honesty refreshing. Culturally we Americans are by and large a bunch of 'Tards, and he has absolutely no compunction about pointing out the fact. Certainly one of the most articulate social critics going.

I have to say the only one I dislike is Kunstler, because of his neoconism.

That "From The Wilderness" guy makes me wonder a bit too, but his writings are good and he's no neocon.

Not sure how you could consider someone as vituperously anti-growth, anti-stupidity (two things neocons love) as he is a neocon, but ok...
