On clear nights you will also be able see the Stars and Milky Way even if you live close to an urban area.

I have to drive 120 miles each way to get to decently dark skies to practice my hobby of Amateur Astronomy hear in Southern California. And the skies still are not as dark as those of Central California where I grew up in the 1960’s.

The cancerous proliferation of outdoor lighting in the last 50 years in all first world countries has so lit up the atmosphere around cites and towns, that most people living in or near them have never seen the plane of our Galaxy, the “Milky Way” unless they have taken trips to less lit rural areas, usually to go camping.

Learn the constellations and the myths that surround them. There are a number of interesting features that can be seen every night with naked eye alone. Get a small telescope, even a crude one will add you a myriad of objects to the list of things you can see. And optical lenses will last almost indefinitely if properly cared for. The large number of available optical components out there now will far outlast anyone reading this site.

A little bit of time spent contemplating the heavens and the occasional meteor have been a pastime of man since long before written language.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MattSavinar', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', 'A')ctually Matt, right after dieoff.org, LATOC was one of the first few sites I found explicitly about Peak, and I have recommended you many times.

Thank you.

But see, most any other link submitted here by the owner of the linked site (who gets a tick on his Google-Analytics counter for every hit) gets deleted pretty quick. As I remember there is a way to buy ad space here.

I'm not just randomly submitting content-devoid links like others have done. These actually has highly relevant content. Should I just register as "RandomPeakOiler" so that my presence doesn't ruffle feathers?

I'll just stop posting the links to the content and PO.com will suffer more than anything I'll gain from the 15 or so visitors each post gets.

Oh yeah...

I play pretty much all instruments... some better 'en others, so not much changes for me. I'm a big reader, so I read or reread, or in the absence of literature, I'll write... then read. So no big change there.

As travel becomes more expensive I expect the Internet will become even more useful than ever before, for what I hope are pretty obvious reasons.

So we all still get to bitch about stuff in here for some time I think, & all that effort I put into becoming an Internet Gaming Guru will finally pay off.

Sweet.

Your dog wants Battlefield 2142.

Metaprocess and gossip! Why just look at the hours of fun people have had here engaged in a bitch-fest over one link that Matt posted in this topic! And if it wasn't entertaining, those who did it wouldn't have done it.

And along with the revival of outdoor clothes lines and front porch socializing, come even more opportunities for gossip! And metaprocess! Oooh yeah baby, crank up the grassroots noise machine! "Yes he did!" "No he didn't!" "Yes he did!" "No he did not!" Let's hear it with a good rhythm, and three-part harmony!

Busybodies will have even more fun looking for minority behaviors to bash and attempt to regulate. The righties can bash on sex, the lefties can bash on smoking, and the mellow middle can cheer or rant depending on the issue.

---

Music. Hmm. Professional recording & production experience here, and as long as there's any kind of technology available, people will want to preserve those live performances for posterity or just for listening to again later, or to be able to hear what's playing elsewhere in the world. And you would be amazed at what can be done with nothing more than good microphones properly placed.

Here's me looking forward to the crash of the "entertainment industries" as they presently exist, to be replaced with a revival of the punk rock DIY spirit applied to all genres of grassroots music.

---

Sex, yeah sure, preferably not unprotected PV intercourse else we breed ourselves into another crash. Let's see masturbation raised to a fine art, taught in sex ed, and practiced eagerly until people are willing to form committed relationships.

---

Story telling. A good storyteller is a natural hypnotherapist, who can take an audience into a vivid imaginal world from which they return with memories as vivid as dreams.

---

When I was a kid we played sports & games on the suburban streets and in the woods. TV was one or two things watched at night after coming in from a good run-around. Saturdays were often bike trips into town to spend the day at the library, coming back with a pile of books to read for the week. On rainy days there were board games played in the basement or family room, every bit as exciting as the twitch-nonsense that people spend hours doing now. When it snowed there was snow to shovel and then snow to play in all day.

---

Drugs. How can we forget drugs? Legalize recreational marijuana. It is the ideal powerdown drug, making every sensation feel like a new and wondrous pleasure and every thought feel like the opening line to a novel or philosophical treatise, thereby eclipsing any desire whatsoever to shop and consume and waste.

Yes, let them eat cake, preferably home-made, but let them smoke the stinky green stuff first, so the cake tastes like the food of the gods.

---

Writing in journals. We can all be chroniclers of the end of the world as we know it. We're already doing it, right here and now.

---

Automobiles. There will still be automobiles around, only they won't be going anywhere most of the time. When I was a kid, a little kid, we would go into the woods and find a log to sit on and pretend it was a rocket into space, and have all kinds of adventures using our imaginations. Tomorrow it will be the automobiles or what's left of them. Kids will go find a car to sit in and pretend it's going somewhere, and have all kinds of adventures using their imaginations.

I'll provide an example.

I live on a farm and we get NO TV reception. I used to have sattellite, but I never watched it. Why? Because there's ALWAYS something entertaining to do.

Walking with the dogs, building things, throwing rocks into a bucket (hey, my 12 year old loves the rock throwing), climbing trees, making up games, archery, swimming in the cow tank, gardening, riding, hide & seek, sleeping on a blanket in the shade, carving rocks, berry fights (better than paintball), looking for fossils/arrowheads, reading, talking, cooking, the list goes on...

Frankly, other than a little time-wasting on the internet, I don't see how people have time for any other forms of entertainment.

Yea, Aaron; pretty funny - I guess.

Gotta say though, I am a wrenching fool, too.

I do love that grease under the nails with blood dripping from the knuckles – oh yea; and that antifreeze-mud down my back under some tree on the side of the road.

I may have to build up my calluses and try to make a tune on the steel string should wrenching go by the wayside.

P.S. KJ could you post a still for those of us bandwidth impaired?

'twas nevertheless, pretty cool.

I can play a bit but not sing at the same time, my brother can sing and play a little bit. Once did a cover of Kill Your Sons with a mate at college. Very electric though, and not very good at that.

I took great pleasure in watching a young woman eat a nectarine today, free entertainment.

At the weekend, I'll be sat with friends again, eating, drinking and chatting. Thats the best entertainment.

"Ron Burgundy" was my first thought too. Can you spew flame out of that thing, Aaron? What kinda sound are you after? Hubie Laws? Jean-Pierre Rampal? Ian Anderson?

You're up in NC, Killjoy? D'ya know Sheila Adams? Favorite singer of mine.

You might like this: Jim Howard - The Little Carpenter, from 1937. Blind singer/fiddler from Harlan Kentucky.

I searched for Jim Howard Little to get the link and got a whole page of Kunstler quotes...

Here's me playing a tune on my pipes: Tom Busby's Fancy. No video, The Dude is camera shy.
