"Not available" at the moment. I've bookmarked it, though, and I'll keep trying.

Here's the web site for it:

Documentary Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers

Unread postby Mesuge » Mon 09 Oct 2006, 18:11:18

"Regardless of the war, the administration, or the various sophistries for expending human lives as a matter of government policy, profiteering from it universally offends all citizens, whether they are Republicans, Democrats, Independents, other parties or no shows." New documentary Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers is out:

by the director Robert Greenwald (Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price, Outfoxed and Uncovered)

http://iraqforsale.org/

PS: the official website links a lot msm interviews with the director as well as lot of short videos from the movie.

Interestingly, these shorts feature his very hot production assistants, so in this sense it's a lefty conspiracy to smooth the message by seductive content 8O

You didn't know about this? God, people wonder why I'm a "conspiracy theorist" Sheeesh. I couldn't make this stuff up. Everything is going corporate in the US-- the military, everything. Your tax dollars, at work. It's theft.

Oneil,

Filmmakers go out on a limb, spend their own money taking on some VERY scary people like Blackwater and you help steal revenue from them by posting links to pirated versions of theirw work.

Way to go buddy.

If you think it's about the money I think you've missed the boat Matt. The objective is to educate as many people as quickly as possible and if the copyright holders didn't agree with that statement then they can ask google to remove the content. Google has been very responsive to this type of request in the past.

From bullnotbull.blogspot.com

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'P')rogressive film director Robert Greenwald was scheduled to testify at a hearing on Thursday, May 10 about war profiteering. He requested to show a few minutes of one of his films - Iraq for Sale - but Republicans blocked his request. Above is what Congress won’t see.

Get the whole story: IraqForSale.org

By Robert Greenwald, who's not a nickels+dimes man on the street type:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')reenwald's films have garnered 25 Emmy nominations, four cable ACE Award nominations, two Golden Globe nominations, the Peabody Award, the Robert Wood Johnson Award, and eight Awards of Excellence from the Film Advisory Board. He was awarded the 2002 Producer of the Year Award by the American Film Institute. Greenwald has been honored for his activism by the ACLU Foundation of Southern California; the L.A. chapter of the National Lawyers Guild; Physicians for Social Responsibility; New Roads School, Consumer Attorney’s Association of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy and the Office of the Americas. He is a co-founder (with Mike Farrell) of "Artists United," a group of actors and others opposed to the war in Iraq, which continues to work toward publicizing progressive causes. Greenwald has lectured at Harvard University for the Nieman Fellows Foundation for Journalism and speaks frequently across the country about his work.

Since May 2005 has been a contributing blogger at The Huffington Post.

Probably that last shot him down. And it's not like this would be news to Congress. Well, maybe, I heard a story the other day about the founder of AOL telling Karl Rove about visiting Iraq in late 2003, I think. Rove was wondering how many hugs/kisses/roses thrown his way/etc by the oh-so-grateful liberated. Utter delusion, in other words.

Also they had their little chat in, uh, Bohemian Grove.

Well, threadbear, I knew there were private contractors at work for the army in Iraq, but I didn't and don't know the full scope of it.

"Iraq for sale is good". I recommend it. It details the financial, economical, ethical and legal issues of using a huge number of DoD sub-contractors in Iraq.

A more detailed documentary on Blackwater and other "security companies" is the 2006 piece "Shadow company". I think it is even more damning of these gung-ho security companies overall.

More opinions and data in "Blackwater: The Shadow War"

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 9379942402

All recommended, esp. the first two.

All of these remind me of this classic essay/book from 1935:

Recommended reading, esp. for those serving in the armed forces.

I've been following the corporatization of the war effort, pretty much since the war began. I just feel despair. Look at the Dow 30. Can you spot one large corporation that isn't directly or indirectly tied in to the war effort? GE?. Their defence contracting arm is significant. The prison-industrial complex? They make uniforms, and other sundry items.

Go up and down the Dow 30 and you can see how the impetus for change isn't there from either neo-liberal or neo-conservative, regardless of strident voices of complaint. This is Wall Street Warfare. That doesn't include the private equity firms like Bechtel and Dyncorp where transparency is dim. It's a nightmare.
