I only know my own member:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('killJOY', '1')5 CREATOR of light, excreter of Babylonian bitumen pits, hoarder of lignite coal seams, secretor of natural gas liquids blisters, depositor of kerogen-soaked Colorado shales, igniter of zeal for all things hydrocarbon:

16 Thou hast said, "Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith";

17 And we say,

"We shall not.
We want more.
Let more come,
As always,
From the have-nots."

Amen.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')eah, well 4 dollars a gallon in the US will force a lot of people out of their cars and make them take the train to work.

Too bad we don't have any trains.

From Eli, a quote we should have on hand as gasoline hits $4 - which, in some locations, won't be long from now.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'T')he only really sustainable and renewable energy is that passing through the Earth's life systems - we can't call it sustainable or renewable if we obstruct it and prevent it from fullfilling its function, as might be the case with widescale wind, solar, tidal, or biofuel.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')If only all good citizens would pick just one politician to spit on, maybe we could drown our problems.
I said spit, but I was thinking something a lot more unfriendly.

I nominate this for quote of the year 2007, at the very least quote of the summer!
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hat we are seeing happening now will be unlike anything that has happened before.

The Great Depression was an economic crisis what we are facing is an economic crisis and a physical crisis. During the great depression the physical energy was there to get us out.

Now as we enter this new depression, whenever we try and grow are way out we are going to be smacked down by PO.

I question the nature of today's "money." I think the only real capital is natural capital. The paper and electronic stuff is a human overlay entirely derivative of the natural base, which is in bad shape and getting worse.

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'I') wonder if I am the only one on this entire forum who actually saw 'Road Warrior' and noticed that the GOOD GUYS WON? I will repeat that. In the movie "Road Warrior" (certainly the best of the Mel Gibson post-apocalyptic science fiction movie franchises that include 'Mad Max' and the much overrated 'Beyond Thunderdome') the white linen, organic cotton, long-haired male PEACENICKS actually kicked Humongous's slick butt and made a fool out of the dumb-shit Mel Gibson character. They played the jerk for the looser he was.

Now, you Mattsavinar ('I am alpha chimp dumb guy') and you Ludi ('organic vegan saves souls') probably didn't even watch the movie. If you had, you would have noticed that the mucho-grando battle shit was a diversion. Just like Iraq is a diversion. The rabble need their entertainment so the civilized people can can continue building society, supporting the arts, creating educational opportunities for everyone and doing the hard, tedious work of actually building a future.

This one's a doozy. :roll:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ushoys', ' ')I'm just not prepared to completely reject ideas of alternative forms of energy just because they are expensive, difficult, non-renewable or take more energy in another form to create.

I like this one:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')IL has created a fantasy of "morals and values". Oil has created a false "compassion" as well. Soon we will find out a swarm has been created and these "morals, values and compassion" are going to go bye bye. Maybe they will return after WE HAVE PAYED THE PIPER. I do have to laugh about how disconnected humans truly and how they think that we are really going to get off scott free and suffer zero or very minimal consequences for our actions. Ludicrous to say the least. Just pass the buck big boys.
