"I mean, if you cover the desert in the Southwest with solar panels, that will take care of our energy problems and carbon problems in one fell swoop, right? It’s just a matter of political will, right? We just need a good progressive in the oval office, and in many other offices, and all these problems will go away, right? We just need a popular uprising to take control of the means of production, at last, and we can keep up the good life that we’ve started here, the good life we’ve gotten so very used to.

We just need to do it right. Right?

What’s the truth about all of this? Is it possible that we can innovate enough new technology to meet the current human energy demand with non-polluting, renewable sources? None of the sources I’ve seen with reliable, holistic data say we can. William Catton, author of Overshoot, says in What A Way To Go that the way we are living now, we overshot the carrying capacity of the planet with the population size we had at the time of the Civil War. Yikes. That’s like five and a half billion people ago. Five and a half billion! That’s a lot of people. More than will fit in your new Prius. More than the local co-op grocery can feed with organic food. That would be a lot of organic ramen to come up with. This is serious."

I'll agree the latte and Prius progressives are weak. But for what it's worth, I don't know any self-proclaimed progressive families with above-replacement numbers of children. Mostly zero or one. They also are not the people agitating against birth control education and empowerment in the third world.

It looks like Nature does not like progressives.
They are going to go extinct for the reason of lack of sufficient breeding.
For the same progress will be made without progressives participating in the process.
Progress of entropy increase, I mean.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ferrelgiraffe', 'T')ruth?
The AMero will be completely digital, and it will be illegal to own gold coins. Only as jewelry and art.

There will be no Amero, but you will enjoy some form of pesso perhaps.
I doubt, it will be digital - just a lot of worthless paper, I think.
And it will make no sense to make owning gold coins illegal, as all of those will be in China.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ferrelgiraffe', '
')2. Close the border physically
3. Sell green cards for 1000 dollars each and they are good for one year.
6. pull our army back from overseas and put them on the border.
9. No foreigner can be on any government commitee.

I wonder why so many Americans got problems with immigrants today. America has a lot of problems, I don't think any of them could be solved by anti-immigration laws (I do think they could be solved, though).

Americas problems don't seem to be created by liberal immigration laws, too.

And how many jobs might be destroyed if there are no cheap workers from the south accepting extremely hard conditions?

I'm not sure whether ot not anti-immigration laws might be creating more problems than they would solve, but I'm sure that America won't solve the social&economic problems it has by fighting against (illegal) immigration.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')ll money overseas will default, but they can change it for the new dollar for two to one (they give us 200 old and we give them 100 new) this in efefect is a HUGE TAX on all the ripoffs they did to us over the last 50 years.

Ripoffs? America is one of the richest countries on earth, the greatest military power, one of the greatest economic powers.

Do the Americans honestly think they're exploited by the rest of the world?

How the f*ck did the rest of the world do that?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he system has been DESIGNED to slowly deflate our standard of living to about 50% of what it was ten years ago at the same time inflating mecxico and Canada

The average GDP/person in the US increased in the last 10 years.

If some Americans are getting poorer, that's because of the social inequality in the US, nothing else.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')ou small attempts at car pooling will do nothing

Correct. But if the US would reduce it's oil and natural gas consumption by taxing energy consumption and taking other necessary steps, reduce military spendings to a normal level, and reduce other taxes + finance a social security system for the poorer Americans, it could recude the trade deficit, reduce the governments debts, and reduce the problems of social inequality.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he larger families will surviive better, if you have like 7 kids, about 1-2 will make it to adulthood. Also, for farming, the larger families do better.

America won't be a third world nation in the future, even if all the shit happens that can reasonably happen.
