Craziest latest claims about oil availability you've heard?

Unread postby jdmartin » Thu 14 Jun 2007, 13:37:47

I heard one the other day, apparently it must be making some kind of rounds amongst some right wing or evangelical talk shows, because I heard some guys that get all of their info from Rush and Savage talking about it. Not sure if it's current or not, but it can't be too old.

Apparently, the center of the earth is a big, creamy reservoir of sweet Texas crude, just waiting to be tapped, and the reason it's so is because oil is actually being created miles below the earth's surface and seeping down into the massive oil "well" at the core. Further, it's impossible for this oil to ever run out because it's being constantly regenerated by oil bugs down there eating something (rocks?).

 This is why I have no faith that anything will ever be done until it's too late.
After fueling up their cars, Twyman says they bowed their heads and asked God for cheaper gas. There was no immediate answer, but he says other motorists joined in and the service station owner didn't run them off.

Sounds like a sophomoric version of good'ol Abiotic Oil.
I can see Savage saying something like that (though I find him quite intelligent on some subjects), just because he could not fathom that God above would put most all the modern lifeblood of crude oil underneath some brown people that he doesn't care too much for.

As for Rush, he is clutching at straws at trying to maintain some relevance to current events.

yes i have heard of the ambiotic oil theary. in fact i had go round with a friend on it a few days ago. he was claiming that was why they capped old wells and came back decades later to find them productive( full) again. And also that all oil comes from geologicaly active areas.
so no worrys go buy that new suv and burn it all up. cause it will just keep refilling. Soon they will all wake up and find reality just bite there backside really hard.

A recent desperate attempt by a friend after I repeatedly bashed him over the head with reality:

"If we get enough carbon in the atmosphere, wouldn't it just start raining oil instead of acid rain? Then we could just put pans out to collect the "oily rain" and put it in our cars."

LOFL!

Jerome Corsi's been a guest on the Weiner Nation off and on. Savage considers him brilliant.
My favorite abiotic oil fun fact is that if wells were replenishing at an economically useful rate you'd see the equivalent of about 40 oil tanker spills in the Persian Gulf every year.
Savage and Bell/Nory don't exactly further the debate giving air to this pseudoscientist. Maybe that's by design. Weiner advocates banning the speaking of foreign languages on the streets of Amerikkka, too. Real Bigfoot stuff here!

Abiotic oil theory is not really all that crasy an idea. Lets just for aguement sake say that abiotic theory is true. That does not negate the fact that the empircal evidence shows that the abiotic process would be so slow as not to prevent the PO events that occurred in the US, North Sea, and elsewhere. Peak Oil will happen reguardless of how the oil got in the ground.

One recent event to support this view is the recent super-deep finds. The latest one - sorry I don't have info and link - mentioned on TOD was at 35,000 feet below ground. As I understand it, geological theory states oil is only supposed to be a maximum 15,000 ft down. Does anyone know the implications and explanations of these very deep finds?

why?.. by that i mean why can't oil be found below 15,000ft?

Temperature and pressure increases with depth and below 15,000 ft oil is cracked into natural gas. The only way you find oil deeper than that, is if was buried in the recent geological past. If anyone finds oil very far below that, it's a real freak of nature. If we're talking 35,000 ft below ground, I doubt extraction is even going to be feasible.
