Since 03/04 timeframe I have from time to time reached out in various ways to get connected to like minded folk...for one reason or another us posters are "leave me alone in my bunker" types (IMHO of course)...that I find fairly ironic when the word we preach is "community building" and "get to know the neighbor".

Any way - I have an off grid parcel near (but not too near) the phoenix area...water...soil...small community near by etc.

Everyone is welcome so long as we all agree that pulling on the rope at the same time makes sense.

Me personally, I don't get those calls, so my number isn't going up on the board. Plus, Pheonix area, man, are you crazy? That's gotta be the most unsustainable city in the world short of new york or LA.

You tell me your looking in Wisconsin or the midwest somewhere, and we have to talk. Cause I'm looking into getting a large plot of land and slowly start building the things I'm going to need on it. I'm attending a Cordwood building workshop at the MREA fair in custer wisconsin this sunday. I believe it's still open if you happen to be in wisconsin at all. Great building style for the midwest and anything north of us as well.

I am baseing my survival and the survival of my kids on people who think like you.

I am hoping most people think like you...the place I have picked is one of the best kept secrets in the southwest. It has a shallow water table...fertile soil...geographically isolated (might as well be an island)...big game and other like minded farmers and shotgun owning people.

I hope people go to Portland...Seattle...Hawaii...Denver...Idaho...I hope they panic and head north.

I agree with Savinar on this...it's called the "attraction" factor...where will most people panic to? The north/northwest

You are correct - Phoenix will burn to the ground...I hope it does...the more bodies the better my chances of survival are.

You may do well laying off the blogging and actually making a move to your "safe" place. Times a running out.

Yeah, but no matter how isolated, your next to a giant city that is going to in your own words burn to the ground. So if that happens, you really think it's more likely that people are going to head anywhere but your "secret" place? ( I gaurentee people know about it)

The nice thing about the midwest is, we have enough farmers no one is going to starve, and the winters, while bad( or they used to be anyway), are something we are used too. That and in my area, they are actually making an effort to start working on peak oil issues. We have a train system that just made final approval and bike paths that are springing up all over the place. And the CSA scene around here is second to none. Oh, and the biodiesel co op is catching on like fire.

I'd far rather have these kind of neighbor's than yours.

Your not going to be able to avoid people with peak oil. We aren't talking bird flu or the black death. Everyone isn't going to die right away. This isn't going to happen overnight unless something freakish happens. It's alot more likely that your little oasis is going to have to deal with alot of visitors before it's all over.

Edit : Yes your basing your survival on people who think like me. I think we are seeing more and more how few people think like the people on this site. If more people thought like me, we wouldn't be having this discussion because we already would have taken the steps to adjust to peak oil. So people like me won't be who your dealing with anyway. In short, I wouldn't take that bet if I where you.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad idea.

though, for now, I'd only post a cell phone number-because they aren't so easy to trace.

And if you do get hit with a lot of population migrants you can always establish a trading post.
