If they are lucky they'll get to drive a tank or some form of supply truck. If they aren't lucky they'll be hoofing it and trying to use the tank as cover.

If they're really lucky the governments will have already collapsed and they'll be on bike or horse.

My vote is for the JL421 Badonkadonk Land Cruiser/Tank . Beat the rush and buy it today... just imagine cruising over the future desolate desert that once was Ohio in your Tatooine style speedster!

A very small electric or a 150 mpg gas scooter if they're very lucky ... bicycle definitely ... cars??? ... their days are numbered and kids born today will see them in movies only by the time they're driving age, unless they're in the military or whats left of the police.

I never said we're all going to die... ;) But since you mentioned it, it's true, we are all going to die (everybody does). How people die (war, disease, famine, revolution) can often be predicted if you know enough. Like the french revolution was probably expected by a few during it's governments overuse of the printing press. Or like the deaths in New Orleans, those people were in my bingo-book long before they drowned.

Most I think will drive nothing, some maybe a normal car if they can get hold of one that works and some fuel. (they will be lucky).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('steam_cannon', 'B')ut since you mentioned it, it's true, we are all going to die (everybody does).

I know.

I have buried my mom, dad, stepdad and a daughter; among others.

Actually my daughter’s birthday was yesterday.

So, yea, I know.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('steam_cannon', 'H')ow people die (war, disease, famine, revolution) can often be predicted if you know enough.

See, the “How people die” thing is what sometimes sets me off around here (not to mention the “if you know enough” slight - which I won’t address).

“People” are the folks you go to bed with and talk too in the morning.

Abstract theories and bland, disengaged comments like we (or more especially they) are all gonna die, either point out innocence or callousness.

Either way, it is that cavalier attitude which certainly turns off many visitors to this site who could gain valuable insight.

But, whatever:

I bet there is a not insignificant portion of the population that when deprived of easy mobility would essentially sit and wait for their eventual demise.

A kid born today will drive:

A human powered vehicle like a bicycle, if living in an urban center

An electric vehicle if suburban

An electric vehicle and animals if living in a rural area employed at producing food on a bio-diverse farm

An hydrogen semi-rigid balloon if in the bulk transport industry, or a cargo sailboat, or an electric train

An hydrogen/biofuel hybrid if part of the military or police and emergency services.

I voted "horse" - but ox is good too. I wanted to put bikes and diesel cars (I reckon doctors, vets and essential personnel will get a share of biofuel to get around, like during the war).

Well, I'm the lone biofueled car voter, here's why.

I happen to have a 2-week old baby in the household right now (GF's daughter's son).

Assuming driver's licenses work like they do now, he'll be eligible to drive in 2023. Of course, he'll have to make it through the beginning stages of the dieoff, but let's assume i have enough support in place to get him to 16 years of age.

Also, I'm in America, where the car represents freedom, like the gun does, and face it - neither are going away no matter what you want to happen.

The next point would be that from the perspective of efficiency, nothing beats liquid fuel. Electric cars are a waste (or they'd already be here), gases are not dense enough.

A further point would be that cellulosic ethanol or biodiesel is within our grasp, as opposed to fusion reactors which have been the joke of the last half century.

Taking all of this into account, by 2023, whether TS has HTF or not, it will be well on its way, starting with the poorer countries. Less people means more resources available for the rest. At some point, a balance may be struck that allows biofuels to be produced in an economically and environmentally responsible way.

To me, this adds up to the kid driving a biofueled car in 2023. Of course, it may have to be four wheel drive due to the lack of road maintenance by then, and he won't be driving anywhere near the miles I currently drive, as things will be more localized.

If you asked me what his kid will be driving, well I'd have to vote for horse, bike, grave posts, or other kids around a turnstile, as suggested by others.
