I'd heard about possible Indium shortages before, I wasn't aware of the other elements though. This is both good and bad.. the only good I can see is it will encourage people to recycle old electronics which might otherwise go into the landfill.

Last year I worked for a security camera / DVR company and got a lot of business from scrap metal and car recyclers because of the rise in scrap metal costs. Used catalytic converters were a major target with each one lost costing the recycler more than 150$

Funny story...

Here in our city, you must pay $25 (maybe more now) to dispose of a large appliance (in this case, an electric stove). My mom's had died, so i hooked up the dolly and put it out by the garbage... She said to put it in the garage and i told her someone will take it, people are going nuts for scrap (lots of garbage picking around here). I said at the least, they'll take the plug in. She said the next day the plug in was gone (cut off) and that a guy stopped by and took it when she was outside, said that he wanted it for scrap. Do these guys figure out gas use vs profit? She saved money and he made some, i guess.
