"We were trying to find out what positive qualities lead to peace," said Leo Abruzzese, the North American editorial director of the intelligence unit that is part of The Economist Group that publishes the well known magazine.
"Democracy didn't actually correlate with peace, but a well-functioning democracy did. Efficient, accountable government seems to be the leading determinant of peace."

The Global Peace Index, compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit, looked at 24 factors to determine how peaceful each country was.
It places the US at 96th on the list and the UK at 49th, while New Zealand ranks second and Japan fifth.
The authors say it is the first attempt to produce such a wide-ranging league table of how peaceful countries are.
Factors examined by the authors include levels of violence and organised crime within the country and military expenditure.
The survey has been backed by the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former US President Jimmy Carter and US economist Joseph Stiglitz, who are all Nobel prize laureates.
It is also supported by Queen Noor of Jordan.

Norway is based on the Bund, or togetherness, the US is based on, "Fuck You, I've Got Mine".
the US is the only country I know of where a parent gets a college degree but does not want their child to get one, because they might theoretically have to compete with them - yes I speak from my own family.
Everyone is in competition with everyone, in the US. I think a society like this is VERY easy to defeat.

Compared to how many wars USA has started or been instrumental in? I guess Iran might have started one for every fourty wars that USA is responsible for since the end of world war II..
well maybe not fourty hot wars.. but a hell of a lot off known millitary interventions:
