I read today that even if you include food and energy prices, the so-called headline inflation rate is less than 5%. You can still buy food at the grocery stores and gas at the gas station. Most people are working and so on. But yeah, it's a very slow gyre, with a gradient which seems to include a slight and accelerating drift inward. Each month the news creeps in. Each month we get a little closer and we spin a little faster. I'm guessing by next year it's going to start looking like the 70's again. The year after that it may actually look like we're in the vortex, going down fast.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('128shot', '
')My point being is, you will have to screw someone over to get what you want in life-thats just the way life is-thats how it has always been. You don't have to necessarily cheat and steal, but a good faced lie and a couple dirty tricks can make your life better 20 years down the road.

Nope. I never screwed anyone over or did any dirty tricks or lied, and I have everything I want.

Sorry to disappoint.

Wow, really Ludi? Never owned a single piece of clothing with "Hecho en Mexico" on the label (or Taiwan, or Pakistan etc.)? Never in your entire life bought even a single thing from Walmart, or Kmart, or any other "Mart"? Never in your life eaten at a fast food pit or chain restaurant? Never in your life purchased even a single gallon of gasoline, not even to cut grass as a kid? And you've only ever posted on this board from your local library?

That's pretty impressive...

Point being that if you have ever, in any way, shape or form, participated in the economy of this country, even if only as a consumer, then I hate to break the news to you, but yes, you have screwed someone over, you have perpetuated "dirty tricks", and you have lied. Even if only by proxy.

As have we all, of course...

Cruel, but true. We're all connected. I read a post on theoildrum.com yesterday where a poster was saying that he reads the news very carefully and feels bad about it, and then goes off to work to help his clients destroy the world. But I don't see any point in pointing fingers and laying blame on ourselves or others. This was an enormous historical process involving countless people and many generations.
