No, I haven't, that's why I asked. It's a very appealing concept I must admit. :-D

I picked it up a few days ago, about half way through it; I tend to read a few books at one time.

Timothy Ferriss has a pretty interesting angle on how to get at what's important in life and step out of the daily work grind. Essentially eliminating the unnecessary and establishing your goals and going after them now rather then deferring them for some make believe time in the future.

It's really about overcoming your fear the unknown and our imagined weaknesses that prevent us from action, also about doing more with less.

Not sure what kind of longevity the plan would have given PO though, but who's to say you can't modify it to make it work.

It can be interpreted as an eco friendly lifestyle depending on how you approach the exercise. It’s been getting some good buzz and is currently #3 in books at Amazon. I can recommend it as thought provoking and as incentive to get off ones ass.
The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.

Run a small fruit & vegetable farm with a roadside market. Does not pay the bills but sure does keep me busy. My wife supports my farming habit.

Ten years from now, I'll probably be pushing up tomato plants from down below. If not, guess I will be still farming.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Narz', 'A')nyway, tell me what you do and what you imagine you'll be doing. Also, how do you feel about what you're doing now and what is your plan for the transition?

Right now I'm working as a teacher.

In 10-15 years I'll be working as a seasonal timberjack/farm assistant. Wood-chopping in the winter, planting and harvesting in the summer, both for longer periods of time far from home. I'll travel in a train filled with hundreds of fellow workers. I expect work will be available in those jobs because no matter what happens, everyone will need food and heat.

If I'm very lucky I'll find some less exhausting work closer to home. Maybe as a plumber. Those pipes will be hard to fix without modern gadgets.

I'll still be living in an apartment, mostly candle lit, with heavily rationed electricity and heating. But not starving or freezing will be enough.

My plan for the transition? Keep my eyes open, use time and money wisely, gain knowledge and skills, have a realistic picture of things to expect.

I'm a planner now for a northern californian county with the responsibility for making long range plans based on past trends and occurances.

Ten years from now, I hope to still be a planner, but making more realistic plans with a healthy dose of "I told you so!"

Currently, I am a civil engineer in the army. In ten years I hope to rule my own fiefdom approximately on a peninsula approximately 30 sq miles in area with only one narrow land access point - think the pass of Thermopolyae. This access will be guarded with both human sentinels and a vast quantity of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines. Food will be obtained from both vegetable gardens and the sea.

No, seriously.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Lore', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Aaron', 'I')n 10 years I'll be Prefect Aaron, roaming the countryside with my merry band of Reapers.

Now accepting applications.

An equal opportunity employer.

Or is that a roaming band of Flagellants?

Do you take people with superpowers that don't work or work intermittently? I ask this because my abiotic generation techniques have had mixed results. Otherwise, I could help produce all the oil we would need. I also have the ability to slur my voice simply by drinking 6 beers. Let me know.

If I leave before 50 (I turn 50 in July) ... I can take the money and run.
My pension contributions will be commuted.
I get a lump sum now if I leave before 50.

So, you are taking a lump sum?

Currently: BA (business analyst), financial services

10 years: probably still an analyst of some sort.

I love research and design so hopefully a job which mainly focuses on those abilities.

I've thought recently about being an eye doctor, seems a rather low key job that will always be in demand. My temperment seems right for it.

Maybe he's referring to you being able to post here more than you do already!

For real, sounds like you got a good plan though, congratulations on your retirement. No time for regrets...

Me, I've already discovered and archived a satisfying amount of the greatest cultural achievements in history in my honest yet humble opinion. I'd be happy if I died tomorrow, I'd much rather live out a "natural" life but I don't kid myself how disconnected I am from a sustainable "autonomous" way of life or community. I enjoy my fate, and have smaller personal goals like finding a girlfriend, must admit peak awareness in status-quo NYC is making that difficult to do, at least that's what I tell myself. :-D

Currently: A student, web designer, systems analyst, poker player, and developing 3D artist.

10 Years from now: In prison for not paying my debts and or for not keeping my big mouth shut regarding the evils of capitalism.

It could be that everyone in this forum could be dead within the next few years, because we are going to open our mouths and say "Told you so" and the people are going to call us liars and then string us up.

What I do for a living...

Now: Minimum wage worker/ underachiever (I wasn't smart enough for college.)

10 Years (if the crash happens by then): I'll most likely be dead like the majority of the population and most of the people on this forum. I bet the average life-expentacy will plummet back below 35 again. If I'm lucky enough to survive, I'll probably end up being a post-apocolyptic, leather-clad biker's bitch. That's the only way I'll be able to survive because I can't use a gun or fistfight worth a shit (believe me, I've lost quite a few... I'm lucky to still have all my teeth!)

10 years (if society doesn't collapse): still a slacker. Or homeless. Or dead.

The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
