They will probably end up choosing to eat animals or die for their cause like good martyrs should :)

We'll probably chew up excess animals. Anything that is a luxury that can no longer be sustained by a declining economy may disappear. Certain of our moral stances might be luxuries. Prosperity and good times smooth over many wrinkles.

On the other hand, given the relative costs of a more-meat versus a less-meat diet, poverty might be the cure for omnivores that lean heavily on the meat.

Tell ALF he needs some web design lessons... I'm just sayin...

I'll tell you how the A.L.F will be affected by Peak Oil. They won't give a rats ass about animal welfare when TSHTF.

I think it's called self-preservation. Are you seriously telling me that a starving ALFer will sit and look at those lambs in the field and not think, "damn my morals, I'm sitting on top of the food chain and I'm hungry."

And I have to say, any organisation going round in balaclavas carrying bunnies do little to scare the crap out of me.

Could people end up eating cats and dogs?
One time in Ukraine I saw a guy rounding up cats, who wasn't a animal control... Another time my wife was telling me a story about a sausage factory that was closed for their field trip because they didn't want the children to see some unusual business they were doing (during soviet collapse)...

My wife thinks lobsters have such sad eyes, when she's eating them. But personally I boil lobsters, kill bunnies and eat them. And if I was hungry, well "Here kitty kitty kitty, bring me a bunny!"

Regarding ALF
I know some researchers who had the ALF trying to mess with their lab... They're into knee surgery materials testing. And to put things into perspective my Mother recently had knee surgery and received an animal tested implant. Surgery was a lot of pain for her but it did her a lot of good. And regarding ALF, I value my Mom ahead of a bunch of rabbits.

IMO, ALF is just a pile of bull emotional arguments to make the site owners feel good and bring in suckers. Unlike this site for example, which is more like work, draining and it definitely doesn't make you feel good. Opps, I mean peakoil.com is great! Hahaha

I love the fried whole shrimp at the local sushi place, I eat 'em head, eyes, feelers, and all. Great stuff! Here's the way to do it, you eat the head first, because shrimp have a sort of sword between their eyes pointing forward, and you can get that right between your molars and take care of it. Then eat the tail end flippers first, so you can treat the sharp point in the center of the flippers likewise. Mmm Mmm good! It sounds fussy but getting some of those pointy bits between your tooth and gum is not fun. The frying is done at a very high temperature, so the shells etc are brittle, you just chew up the whole thing. Sure to be full of all kinds of trace minerals.

Will we ever eat cats and dogs? Having lived in China I can tell you the answer is "yes!" Also, rats and watercockroaches too. Bon appetite!

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.

Maybe I'm unfamiliar with the principles of the ALF, I think it's animal testing, what often amounts to torture, that they object to. That and probably mistreatment/starvation etc of pets, gassing of unwanted pets, folks shooting ducks at the park with arrows (so you end up with ducks going around with arrows stuck in 'em no shit) etc.

I've heard quite a few veggies say that if you want to eat meat, you ought to kill it yourself or at least if you want to eat beef, have killed and butchered at least one bovine. I'm all for that, and against the kind of "concentration camps" beef chickens etc are raised or fattened in in the US. Make mine free range, please!

At least after the dieoff it will all be free range, here kitty kitty..... BTW when that time comes, you can feel good about eating cat, since feral cats are a disaster to most ecosystems.

Everytime I eat meat I consider myself to be finishing what the Abattoir started.

Ideas like this get on my nerves. Isn't this the very reason Butchers exist? Do veggies spend hours in the field reaping what they sow? Clue is you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure the answer out.

As said many times here. WTSHTF, what would rule, the morals of the mind or pains of hunger from the stomach?

And WTSHTF would there be enough meat left on a starved veggie?

The eyeballs and brain are loaded with essential amino acids and fats that will keep you alive. The organ meats are where the bulk of nutrition is. The bone marrow will be delicious. The "meat" content will be fairly useless, delivering much less sustenance per unit weight.

Veggies will in fact probably be safer to eat in any case. Basically free-range vs. feedlot humans. You are what you eat.

Except we have to keep clear of brains and spinal cord these days, mad cow/deer/sheep/squirrel. Yes, squirrel too. But I think the brains can be used in tanning.

But the guts, the liver, "sweetbreads", all those weird tasty little parts, all good. That's why people traditionally ate them. And with birds, up to duck and chicken size anyway, the skin, yum.
