The First Men

I just read The First Men by Howard Fast last night (you can read the whole thing thru the link).

Not peak oil related but a cool little short story. Enjoy!

I clicked on the link. There is a lot to read.
I closed it after about 8 seconds, soley focussing on the lengh of text and the estimated time it would take to read it.

In other words, I have no idea what it is all about.

Could you provide a short synopsis or at least a reason why any of us should skim through that text? I hate to scan through random content due to the data overload that we all have to live with.

If you describe the meaning of that picture, it's disturbing but oddly captivating.

It's science fiction. I don't want to summarize too much or I'll give some of the plot away.

Basically it's about a human experiment project. A bit far fetched but it struck a chord with me for some reason.

That pic reminds me of an Anna Karenina ballet I saw in San Fran a year or so ago.

Mind me asking, Albente, when you buy or about to buy a book , any book, do you add the value of your time you will spend reading to the book's price? Does it influence your final decision?

An excellent short story Narz, thanks for the link.

Of course, the "final solution" was (sadly) predictable.

And albente if you're interested then read it. That's the point of a story, not having it "summarized" for you by someone else...

SF Chronicle is a cheesy newspaper compared to the LA Times. I avoid it.

Do I evaluate the time that I need to read a book when buying it? I don't think so. The two books that I 'eat up' and couldn't stop reading for breakfast, during work, lunch, dinner and even while having sex were 'The comming global superstorm' quite a few years ago and more recently '2012, the Return of the Quezacoatl' by Daniel Pinchbeck.

And the website where I found the graphic is this:

WTF are you talking about? The SF that shakespear1 was referring to is Science Fiction. The story Narz linked is a science fiction short story. Something generally read for entertainment or to perhaps inspire "what if" type contemplation...
