How much do you all figure a 1 years supply of MRE'S would cost?

What's a year? 365 days. What's an MRE cost? Assume you want to eat 2 a day. So, (cost of MRE) X 365 X 2 = what it will cost.
I come up with a figure of about 3 grand, assuming MRE's are 4 bucks each.

well I was looking for someone who might know where to get them at a decent price.
They run about 7 bucks a piece and are 1200 calories a piece.
7.00 x 2 x 365 = 5110. I would like to cut this price down by at least 35%

Depending on how active you are, and of course how much fat you have stored to start with, you can stretch those 2400 daily calories quite a bit. In the past I discovered that breaking up the MRE pack will let you mix and match to get a good balance of foods ate whatever calorie count you need, not the tastiest way to live but definately do-able. For most Americans 2000 calories is actually more than enough per day, your individual needs may vary wildly from this.

Call the dealers and discuss price. At the pallet load level, you should get a little benefit from volume alone.
Keep in mind that you may not need (or want) full MREs for 2 for a year. You could, for example, buy a large quantity of pasta...or rolled oats...or any number of other foods that would cost far less than constant MREs. If you have a heating option other than the FRH, you could buy some of your meals without heaters, and that should save something.
You might be better off going for 1 MRE and 1 entree per day, with the supplements listed above. With volume discounts, that should get you close to your 35% goal.

I figure on buying a few months supply, for 3 or 4, and using it only in a really dire emergency. Its a last resort kind of thing. That and some way to filter and purify water are top on my list of "things to do before TSHTF".
I would think it will be possible to live off the land some of the time if your not in an urban setting. I have forests and a water source very close by.

I am thinking more along the nature of emergencies, but sadly MRE's only have a safe lifespan of 5 years.

Well...much depends on how you treat them. Keep them in the trunk while the temperature is 120 F, and they won't last long. Store them in a warehouse at 60 F, and they survive a long time.
I've eaten a 15 year old MRE...and, clearly, am still around.
