most all christian scholars cite may, 1948 as the start of the final countdown of the current world system.
Christ gave the signs that would take place during the period starting from that date. and He used the term 'generation'. the time representation of that term has been contested mostly from two groups 1. 40 years period group 2. 100 year'ers. a few others have argued for 70 and 80 years. since these signs didn't take place before 1988, most say now the 'generation' refers to 100 years.

therefore, under that interpretation, all this takes place between now and 2048 at the latest. now, a few other things: 1) the signs take place in a 7 year period called the tribulation period which is divided up into 2 halves {the first, unparalleled prosperity; the second, devastation}. 2) the anticrist is the charismatic world leader during the tribulation.

for a person to become a world leader, they need to bring a lot to the table (in the movie the omega code, they portrait him as a person that was gifted in many areas one of which in scientific area and he brought to the world an inexpensive desalination method (a movie idea) and other things including a comprehensive peace treaty to the middle east (biblical requirement).

one possible scenario as to how peak oil and bibical prophecy may be harmonized in this upcoming time period is that this personage brings to the world an virtually unlimited inexpensive, maybe free, source of energy. remember that the 1/2 half of the tribulation is highly prosperous.

Please! "Most" Christian scholars certainly do not begin some kind of countdown from 1948. A few do. Most have learned humility from 2000 years of calling for countdowns. I can list a number of major ones off the top of my head: The emperor Nero's prosecutions, Constantine's supposed gift of property to the church; the long-lasting schisms of the middle ages; the Reformation; Napolean's toppling of empires; the convulsions of the 1st half of the 20th century, and the apocalyptic appearance of nuclear weapons. There were a lot more.

I can't even think of what event in 1948 comes near to any of these - was it the founding of the United Nations? Don't forget that Christianity was founded and flourished during a period of (western) world imperial rule by the Romans; if anything, "most" Christian scholars through history have viewed the dissolution of empires and monarchies as signs of the end times. The fall of three different empires in 1918 shook up the world system much more profoundly than anything that happened in 1948.

How about this interpretation: the earth is the Garden of Eden, and we are on the verge of getting ourselves expelled through our own stupidity?

the start of the last 3 1/2 years of the tribulation commences when this person enters the not yet constructed temple in jerusalem and demands to be worship as God (the tribuation starts when the peace treaty is signed which gurantees israel saftey). the state of israel needed to be reconstituted before the temple is built and the peace treaty signed.

Now this is where I think most Christians make a big mistake.

I will admit that I used to make it myself.

Modern day Jerusalem has nothing to do with God. It is worth looking up anti-Zionist Orthodox Jews. They oppose modern day Israel, they believe that it is the Messiah that is to lead them into Jerusalem not men.

Modern day Israel is a secular state.

Modern day Rabbinical Judaism can trace its linage directly back to the Pharisees. Jesus himself consistently rebuked the Pharisees for there legalism and belief in themselves more than God.

Rabbinical Judaism only came into power after the period of Christ and they had followed two false Messiahs. It was after the second false Messiah that the temple was destroyed.

They are not chosen people though they think they are and that goes for the religious and non-religious alike. They have made a nation for themselves and honor themselves more than God. From what I know of God, God really hates that.


What they are is a bunch of arrogant men surrounded by enemies, they fight under their own power and God is not with them. They should be scared as hell.
