A surprising 34% of homeowners have no idea what type of mortgage they have, a new poll finds. And a significant number are worried about making payments next year.

As concerns about subprime mortgages plague the nation's leaders and lenders, America's homeowners are confused and worried about their own mortgages, according to a poll commissioned by Bankrate.com.

In the survey of 1,004 adults conducted by GfK Roper Public Affairs & Media, homeowners with mortgages were asked what type of mortgage they had. A stunning 34% of the homeowners had no idea.

Look at the bright side. We denizens of PO.com, the informed and forward looking, have seen this coming for some time and (hopefully) have made the choices in our lives that will help us make the transition.

Meanwhile the majority of our countrymen have no idea what's coming because their favorite news sources aren't telling them and they haven't the intelligence/curiosity/wherewithal to search for the truth. Or, upon having been exposed to it, they became angry and blocked it out.

Although I will admit it was funny watching people do anything they can to dump the SUV roughly a year ago, then turn around 6 months ago and do just about anything to try and get into one.
