(U.S.A.) National Public Radio's "Talk of the Nation Science Friday" with Ira Flatow (starting about now where I live) is due to ask the question of why there are no conservation efforts considering the energy situation.

There is no conservation because nobody with a credit card is really feeling the pinch....yet.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

To stop and conserve is a self admission of defeat. Meaning that you have to admit that there is something wrong, so wrong that there is no possibility of turning back and there is little you can do about it. Better to ignore it all or stay dumb and carry on with the usual as if everything is alright.

There goes my dream of the old fat man in the red BMW convertible!

The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.
