Book: "Jamestown" by Matthew Sharpe

Post-apocalyptic AND hilarious. And phenomenally well-written. I haven't enjoyed a book this much probably ever. This man is brilliant.

Here's a terrible review of it. It basically re-imagines the Jamestown colony disaster with a sense of humor. It paints a pretty believable picture of what this country would look like after a series of serious catastrophes: pollution rampant, highways crumbling, Brooklyn at war with Manhattan, "towns" inhabited by people who may or may not be more amenable to stabbing you in the neck than trading with you. As the character "Johnny Rolfe" says on the first page,
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')Some great, quaint, pre-annihilation philosopher described the movement of history as thesis, antithesis, synthesis, whereas I've seen a lot more thesis, antithesis, steak knife, bread knife.
I heart Matthew Sharpe.

Thanx, I'll see if I can find a copy and give it a try.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I've got to get it. I am a decendant of the Jamestown colony, (along with enough other people to fill a phone book and Wayne Newton). I loved the movie New World and saw the ship being built here in Rockport Maine that they used in the movie.

This sounds like a great continuation of the crazy experiment started 400 years ago. Who knows, maybe it would have been very different.
