$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Eli', 'W')ell I think Don Imus did do something good by saying what he did.

He showed just how shallow and insecure the black community is in the US. Make no mistake there are some serious issues going on within the black community and they have nothing to do with Don Imus.

He is just an old fart, but because he is white and used the term "nappy headed ho", one would think he was the next grand wizard of the kkK by the out cry.

Unfortunately there is a large segment within the black community who glorify gangsterism, violence and who are anti education, they celebrate ignorance and a dead end lifestyle. And they also have this this odd love affair with the term nigger.

But it is much harder to fight the enemy from within than the enemy from without. So along comes Don, wearing his ridiculous cowboy outfit and he says something stupid. The black community was then able to vent all their pent up criticism on this old white dude rather than take a hard look at themselves.

Call me when the black community stops praising former drug dealers and convicts, and they stop glorifying violence and misogynists until then they can shut the hell up as far as I am concerned.

Eli, spoken like one who truly discerns the issues at stake here. Bravo!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('max_power29', 'V')ery interesting Purcatty.

On another note. Why was this guy watching/commenting for a women's basketball game if he was so important and successful? I would rather watch paint dry.

I have never heard of him until last week.

I used to watch Imus on MSNBC during the commercials on CNN in the morning and he just struck me as surly. The language he used is not in his vernacular and he thought it would be funny to borrow from the black street. Not a good move.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('purcatty', 'I')magine a boot kicking you in the face over and over again, forever.

Ohh come on. That's a great quote. Don't screw it up.

"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stomping on a human face -- forever." - George Orwell
"We were standing on the edges
Of a thousand burning bridges
Sifting through the ashes every day
What we thought would never end
Now is nothing more than a memory
The way things were before
I lost my way" - OCMS

Imus fell prey to the masses. I'm sure there was one voice that started the chorus "crucify him" and that voice was (fill in your favorite conspiratory/racist theory here)
A couple of months ago, a noted hunting editor opined about semi-auto rifles and got sacked.
It seems there are thousands of vultures hanging on every word spoken by "celebrities", ready to ignore every positive thing that person may have done. What a bunch of losers.
That said, it is a symptom of our culture, so those "celebrities" better keep their brain engaged.
As for advertising, yes the aforementioned concept works for the masses. But some people get it. They won't be swayed by smoke and mirrors.
This is where everybody puts profound words written by another...or not so profound words written by themselves

Personally, I thought Imus' show was idiotic. Kind of like Stern's, but without the big breasts.

Nonetheless, calls for him to be fired were ridiculous. Where are all these same protesters when the latest, greatest rap star is calling people (women mostly) 10x worse things than "nappy-headed". And it can't be because he's white, because look at Eminem, same story.

Fact of the matter is Imus is pushing 70 and I'd bet a lot of those advertisers (and CBS) were really looking for a reason to get rid of him anyway. I guarantee if that was Howard Stern that said that, no one would have said anything. I hope CBS and MSNBC lose their ass without his shows. We live in a ridiculous world of hypocrisy, and everyone is the walking wounded.

THAT is what makes people doomers - hell, if we can't even handle being called some slang, what the hell are we going to do if (when?) gas prices REALLY get high? If "nappy headed ho" inspires massive protests, I'd guess $5 gas surely equals street riots and guns a-blazing...
After fueling up their cars, Twyman says they bowed their heads and asked God for cheaper gas. There was no immediate answer, but he says other motorists joined in and the service station owner didn't run them off.

Nope.

Imus had just signed a new contract. CBS had contracted to pay him $40 million for the next four years. His program was among the most profitable on the air. His program was so popular that advertisers paid a high premium to get on it, and earnings from advertisers had gone up considerably from the preceeding year.

Imus was fired because his joke about the Rutgers womens team wasn't PC, and Al Sharpton and his ilk hounded CBS until they fired him.

Looks like Imus is now going to sue CBS for breach of contract.
