The Ship of tomorrow! Actually, none of the ships I have been to sea on have been fossil-fuel powered.

Well, Ok, more believe that the next generation naval vessel will be nuclear. But the generation after next? Wind and sail, baby!

As for commercial shipping, we may see sail sooner rather than later. In fact, there are some really interesting para-sail concepts for using one or more of what is basically a huge kite to pull the vessel through the water without the roll-moments and structural issues associated with transfering wind force through a mast.

It's from one of my favorite movies; "12 Monkeys". I thought that its message of unavoidable doom was very applicable to Peak Oil.

Any time travellers here btw?

Just do it! Simple enough.
I want to put out the fires of Hell, and burn down the rewards of Paradise. They block the way to God. I do not want to worship from fear of punishment or for the promise of reward, but simply for the love of God. - Rabia

This was one of my first Avatars.

No deep significance, I just try to mix it up every now and then with a little humor.

mine is a vote of no confidence in our system. Vote For Pedro, might as well. Who are these jackasses who want to lead us? And who are the authoritarian pricks who will take over when TSHTF? Besides, it was a funny movie.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('basil hayden', 'I') think the best one you had was the first one I saw, the black and white of some dolled up fat bitch, don't know who it was though.

That would be that perfect satire of American excess, DIVINE:

For awhile there I felt like that crazy guy on the corner screaming about the end of the world and very few where listening. These days doomer seems more common then cornucopian around here but I find that I recognize posters by their avatars and don't feel like screwing anyone up by changing mine.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')nd there is one more connection.
The most profound recently realized and I most definitely cannot tell you everything.
Yet.
But it is the subject of my book and my entry into the Galileo Awards.

Google.

Galileo Awards and Binary Research Institute...

I am perhaps a bit slow this morning.
Got curious but I just don't know what I am looking for among the google pages.
Is it the binary sun thing? If it is, what does it have to do with number 4 and the other stuff discussed?

Dec = 12 = 3*4
31 = 4
So Dec 31 = 4*4 = Very good date.
Come thinking of it Dec 31 has always been a good day for me.
Not like that lousy 1/1 with hangovers and regretted new years promises. :o

OK, what's up with 22? --Perhaps start a new thread for this in open discussion????
Familiar with Michael Tsarion? Any comments? I came across some stuff of his on the net but have not had a chance to look at it.

Ummm...somebody linked an article off the PETA website, and there I found this cool picture of a cow. I think it was supposed to be making me feel bad for eating burgers or something, but I just thought "Wow! Cool cow picture!" So I "borrowed" their cow. Hey...It's not the best story, but it's an avatar, not a tattoo. I can change it when I get bored.

Mine was on a t-shirt I found once in a JCPenny. Really like the artwork...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Aaron', '[')img]http://lh4.google.com/image/AaronEDunlap/RXRwuRSW2II/AAAAAAAAAng/nIASEA4yiHc/s288/jesus.jpg[/img]

Toooo damn funny!! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

And yet oddly tragic, that it does in fact reflect a viewpoint held by many...

I'll bump this for a while until more people explain their avatars.

"I just liked it" is an acceptable explanation, btw. :)

I picked my avatar when I eliminated my TV and satellite system. I determined that the benefits of not having a TV outweighed the liabilities. I am subjected to significantly less consumer pressure and have not missed it at all (except for the occasional Dolphin game). I see friends' kids essentially Mesmerized by the tube, which can't be good. Things have changed since I was young and warped by the Road Runner Cartoons. Acme Anvil Co... now that is a product !. Aside from PO, GM food, Bees, Debt, one of the scariest films I have ever seen is the BBC "Century of the Self"

Good grief. I picked and changed my avatar 2 hours before this thread resurfaced. Well, great timing...
