I brought up this issue at Spengler's forum at atimes.com about a year ago. I thought I try it again and see what the response might be. Here is the post:
There is an interesting line spoken by Leonardo Di Caprio's character in the movie Blood Diamond about the events that took place in Sierra Leone. He said, 'God left this place a long time ago'. Spengler's faith is a fine thing and it leads him to solid insights about modernity. But I recall what he said a year ago when I brought up the peak oil situation: 'it's not the end of everything, it's just the end of you'. Well a year has come and gone and the news is getting grimmer by the month. Canceled energy projects around the globe because of rapidly escalating cost overruns. Blackouts in many third world countries. Declining oil production in Mexico and Kuwait. The situation is rapidly approaching critical. So what does this mean? It means we have been living like yeast in a vat of grape juice. Grow until you can't grow anymore. Then die. God is nowhere around. Nature is scowling, a menacing presence that's going to have the last word.
I wonder if Spengler will respond to this and what he might say if he does.
