$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Waterthrush', 'P')retorian, I take it you are paying out a percentage of your income now to your debtholders?

No I just dont pay it at all. I dont have any debt ( yet) ( I am a foreigner ) but my wife has a TON ( she is American) . So , I looked into it and couldnt find any reason to pay it. We dont have mortgage, though , but in many places nowdays renting is way cheaper than ownership.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Waterthrush', ' ')I suppose if you expect total anarchy to break out within one year, then your strategy might make sense,
No need for anarchy. Inflation is taking care of it as we speak.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Waterthrush', ' ')but I suspect that debt collection will last significantly longer than that!

And what about them? What do they do? In the last few years all they do is sending as letters once or twice a month, threating to write a scary one to us.
I was offered once a job in the real debt collection agency, had to turn it down though. It was the one which puts an iron on your belly and plug it in for a higher efficiency of work.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') don't see debt as such a terribly bad thing, because I anticipate that the economic shocks in the early stages of peak will consist of a high inflationary period where my debt will be inflated away.

This is very smart if your income adjusts accordingly and the debt is at fixed interest rate.

The problem many will have is that they think their income will adjust with inflation whilst the mortgate stays the same.
Will this still work if you get unemployed?

The rule therefore is to cut back on consumer/home debt and if debt is required, only use it for investments that you expect to fare well.

I get quite a different reaction from people I mention it to. I get a lot of agreement that things are going to get bad.

Example: A neighbor two doors down just got a new Prius. I went over to talk to him about it, and the conversation soon turned to gas prices and supply. He told me about "Crude Awakening", which he'd just seen on TV, and made a bell curve in the air with his hand. He's older, and he said he probably wouldn't see TSHTF in his lifetime, so I diplomatically told him that he just might, owing to the fact that the conventional wisdom on reserves is probably a crock of shit.

He had no problem with that. He felt that maybe it was possible. His real concern, however, was for his children and grandchildren.

So there's a random neighbor telling me about Peak Oil. He even knew the global and U.S. daily consumption figures.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Zardoz', 'S')o there's a random neighbor telling me about Peak Oil. He even knew the global and U.S. daily consumption figures.

Just a year ago I never would have believed such a thing could happen. But the mainstream exposure of PO certainly is increasing, isn't it? That and the sustained high gasoline prices make for a lot more people who are receptive to the message.

Actually it would be quite interesting to see graphs of how many people come to PO.com during gas price surges and then drop off as the gas prices decrease. I bet there's a strong correlary. Our argument goes over much better when folks are getting pinched at the pump. When prices shoot toward 5 $ a gallon I bet we'll have a lot more traffic and there'll be a lot more open minded folks to talk to.

That's a pretty good idea. I bet Aaron could actually do that too.

I put a link to LATOC into my signature at another forum. Let 'em have a gander I say. I think Aaron has posted some stats on business here correlating to gas prices, or did I just dream that?
It'll be interesting to read the stuff at that Hannity forum. The second reply:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'h')ere are videos you can watch about Peak Oil...they both attack my president so I don't know how well I believe in this stuff...

Faith in action! Wish I could make more oil just by staring at a picture of Harry Reid or WeverTF.

When you meet him over next time. Just past the note about
plug-in Prius conversions (upto 100mpg), they start at cca 6grand with the lead acid option. These conversions are mostly non-invasive procedures, for instance that boxy hole in the trunk is stock by Toyota, they sort of planned for this hah..

If he is a bit older he will for sure welcome the fact that he won't spend much time at the pump when some form of rationing begins in next few years.. Is it worth the money? Depends how much you value your time and safety, the pumps are going to be a dangerous place to hang around in the US even with some troopers lurking around..

The best price/bang kit seems to be "PiPrius" it's based on the
the top components in the business from ManzanitaMicro..
