I was surprised to read this yesterday, and with a Peak Oil induced economic crisis on the horizon, I doubt that it will ever be turned into reality. I guess it would be the natural thing to do though, if it were business as usual.

Umm...can you say paranoia?
The US and Europe only agreed to reduce a few trade barriers.
If you think US farm subsidies are bad, Europe's are easily twice as excessive.
Why do you think Africa has such trouble feeding itself?
Could it be that the US and the EU, through the use of subsidies, allow farmers to sell cereal grains for less than the cost to grow them, thus sucking the life out of small scale third world agriculture?
The current tariff, subsidy, and trade barrier system needs to be curtailed drastically.
A simple 20% tax on all imports and the elimination of all direct subsidies would be great for everyone.
I'm not too worried about this current trade agreement with Europe.
I'm more worried about trade agreements with say, Chile and Honduras.
At least Europeans can actually provide a market for US-made goods.

Sure.
And when I get issued a North American Passport and pay my taxes to the United North American Government, I'll get concerned.
But for now, it's just a few politicians pretending to lower trade barriers.
