Preparing for 'peak oil'

The world has a big problem: It's running out of oil. According to a recent Government Accountability Office report, the long-awaited "peak oil" crisis will certainly happen by 2040 - and may be happening right now.

Why most people think its "running out" of oil? Crack addicts are too smart to be stupid to understand. Twisted truth and lies into murky waters.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'F')ortunately, President Bush has a strong energy plan in place that can be easily augmented to respond to concerns in both the oil industry and the global warming community.

I feel so much better now. President Bush is on the case.

I didn't 'get' the part about Bush's strong energy plan. I was at first surprised this was even a 'news' story in the Baltimore Sun, but then I see it's just an opnion piece.
It's already over, now it's just a matter of adjusting.

Yes, it's an opinion piece. I was so excited to see a mention in the Baltimore Sun that I overlooked the fact it's an op-ed. But still, any exposure in the media is better than none. There is editorial discretion and perhaps this piece can have the effect of making readers aware of peak oil.

So, while I'm jumping the gun on real peak oil news, you may as well have a look at this one too:

From PeakingAroundtheCorner:

The Baltimore Sun

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he world has a big problem: It's running out of oil. According to a recent Government Accountability Office report, the long-awaited "peak oil" crisis will certainly happen by 2040 - and may be happening right now.

Sorry, but I have to give credit where credit is due; the Sun has in this piece contributed to the cause, in spite of the fact that it is probably not politically advantageous for them to do so. They mention “peak oil” (someone should tell them to capitalize it) and “and may be happening right now”. It’s a pity that the GAO had to throw in 2040, a little ass covering apparently, but the message is getting out through official sources; the only type that most sheep (I mean people) trust. We may be trying to change the course of a 767 five hundred feet before it hits the mountain, but some people are trying!

Soon the day will come when TPTB will no longer be able to keep the lid on this problem. Of course by then the 767 is scattered across that mountain and those that were along for the ride are dead.

If you are following pup55’s thread, that soon is probably 12 weeks away. The US will loose, probably permanently, 6.5% of it gasoline supply, the stock market will crash, the dollar will start a downward spiral into oblivion, McMansions will begin looking like White Elephants and almost everyone will see their 401K flash into a pile of ashes.

The fat TPTB will not be sitting on the lid of Pandora Box much longer!

We read $this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')n 2005, the average floor area in a new home reached an all-time high of 2,424 square feet

We wonder what is going to happen when costs to heat and cool these spaces increases?
