I don't know why I'm posting this as I don't even live in the US but I just found it interesting.

40% Favor military action to prevent Iran nuclear capability
The current survey found that 40% believe the United States should use military force to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Another 40% disagree and say force should not be used. Republicans, by a 2-to-1 margin, favor the use of force. Democrats, by a similar margin, are opposed. Those not affiliated with either major party are fairly evenly divided.

Given the straightforward question, 'Is evolution well-supported by evidence and widely accepted within the scientific community?', some 48% of Americans said 'No'. Furthermore, 34% of college graduates said they accept the Biblical story of creation as fact.

I'd imagine most Iranians favor disarming the U.S. too.

As a registered Republican (Ayn Rand admirer type) I guess I’m in the minority here. But I’m a firm believer in the law (not the word of man), and one of the Laws this Nation adopted was a 1947 United Nations Treaty which stipulated that no member nation would go to war against another nation unless first attacked! I guess I’m one of those old time Republicans who like Abraham Lincoln still reads!

Guess I’m in the minority here too. I had a chance to read “Origin of the Species” as well as “The Voyage of the Beagle” when I was still in high school. I guess that spoiled me in the Indoctrination of Ignorance.

I wonder how many Iranians would reject evolution. And it wouldn't surprise me if that is lower percentage than in America. [smilie=icon_rolleyes.gif]

Your statistics sound about right.

48% of American college graduates have no science education or went to some flaky minority affirmative action university degree mill.

40% of Americans don't have a clue as to what the horror and suffering of war really is. They've never even been on the receiving end of serious personal violence. They, nor any of their elders has ever known a day when Pepsi & Cheetos wasn't on the shelves due to a military action.

The Iraq war was about petrodollar trade just as devastating Iran will be. Iran also wants to trade oil for Euros, an act that would seriously damage the US currency market and the otherwise failing US economy. Of course invasion/attack over a limited nuclear program makes more sense to the average American, so I expect them to run with that excuse just as they did with Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq.

And Nuclear is an even better excuse then WMD. When WMD's are not found that can be embarrassing. But when you destroy the "capability" to produce nuclear weapons, even if there was nothing to find who would know? And if Iran's stock exchanges get destroyed in the war (averting their trade in Euros), well collateral damage happens, just like it happened in Iraq. The empire rolls on and the petrodollars place as the top exchange currency remains secure.

Oil keeps pumping and dollars keep their value a little longer.

Well, at least things are getting better.

In 2004, it was 55% that believed in creationism. In 2005 it was down to 51%.

As far as I'm aware, Islam does not refute evolution. In fact some verses can be taken to give support to the theory (not scientific but religious of course). Islamic creationists (of the same caliber as Christian creationists) are on the fringe of the group that have access to the theory of evolution, whereas you are on a fringe if you believe in evolution in the US as a Christian.

Sad, and we're the ones who are supposed to be smarter and more advanced than those 'heathens'.

Anyway, I'd have to imagine a very high number believe in evolution, especially those in the universities.

When are we going to get a poll that asks the general public:

"Do you understand the scientific method?"

"Do you understand what is meant by the word, 'theory'?"

"Have you actually heard or otherwise witnessed a scientific presentation of evolutionary theory?"

I don't see it happening, either.
