In real life meet-up outside the board

What's on your mind?
General interest discussions, not necessarily related to depletion.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Zardoz', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('cynicalheretic', 'I') am too friggen scared to meet you all face to face. Knowing the type of crack pots that are on here, I expect someone will show up with a dead body in their car.

Absolutely.

"Real life"? No way. God knows what horror could befall us.

The evening starts out with a harmless discussion of depletion and reserves over a few beers. The flow of beer increases until the discussion turns to the end of humanity and our impending demise. At one of the participant's apartment the next day, the police discover three bodies with red lip stick "PO" marks on the foreheads and white sheets covering the bodies. The media goes into a tizzy on the dangers of the peak oil cult.

It could be that or it could be a very good time with likeminded individuals. Personally, I favor good time.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MD', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('NEOPO', 'Y')es its kinda sad Blukatzen plus the fact that I still cannot see your tits from here hun 8)

Seven ten, I would never hurt anyone who didnt try to hurt me first and then I simply feel sorry for the poor soul. When it comes to Raphael I would never hurt him but only subdue him until he came to his senses.
NEOPO LOVES RAPHAEL :-D

Actually if we did all get together I bet there would be more discussions about everything but PO then about PO as we have hashed PO out repeatedly here hence the popularity of the Open forum.

I went to st louis in 03' to meet up with my online gaming team and we did more partying then gaming.
I was the only american who drank until the last drop with the Germans and I am not an alcoholic just a BAMFR!
People expected me to rant yet I had said all I wanted to say on the forums, was aware of how narrow minded most of them really were and didnt really want to repeat myself ad infinitum.
Note: none of them tried to debate me on the issues they boldly faced me on the forum about. I suspect most of those who do not enjoy my views here would conduct themselves similarly :)
So sad...

dude...there's this little pub in richmond not far from i-70 . . . about an hours drive for me. I'll give ya a shout when I'm passing through.

NEOPO and you both around Richmond VA? I visit there fairly often, got family there, grew up in the area.

I met one person from here. (Not a regular.) I ended up introducing her to a couple of my friends and they all moved down to a piece of land that her and another guy owned in the coast mountains of Oregon. She turned out to be a total head case. It went from "We're going to build a happy non-heirarchical commune and live in harmony with the land" to "benevolent feudalism" (her words). She decided my friends should make no decisions and do all her work for her. She on the other hand, continued to live in an apartment 50 miles away and was absolutely terrified to sleep in the forest. Bad scene.

So yeah. Beware. Lots of kooks here. :P

Austin, TX here. I'm up for a drink on 6th Street most anytime, especially during the summers.

and I will debate! . . . think tom petty "and I won't . . . back . . . down!"

Cool! :)
Although with some sound effects and facial expressions added to the mix we may find that we align fairly well. I would expect most peakers to have much in common or we simply would not be here.

I use to live in Stafford Va but we are located in southern ohio currently.
Let us see what this years storms bring, richmond might be callin like it did in 98'/99'. So if you get hammered by a hurricane know that Neopo won't be far behind 8)

Yeah I would enjoy talking to most of you in person but like I said i bet the PO part would fade fast as we have heard it all.
I think prep is the most important issue so that is what I would prefer to talk about, well that and the best ways to cook zombie stew!

For some reason I thought you were in Indiana. I'm in Springfield, Ohio. You can't eb far away unless you are way down south around Portsmouth or Gallipolis

I have had the pleasure of meeting two people from PO.com both of whom were friendly, sincere, and shared our general mission of increasing knowledge and preparedness.

In fact, my family and I spent a wonderful day and a half with one brilliant young member just last weekend including sharing our humble home with him overnight. He saw first-hand our very low-tech composting technique, which in my opinion and experience is the only way to go. He also saw how we managed to maximize our utilization of passive solar heating and never (almost... sheets twice) use the clothes dryer during the wettest winter in ages around here. He offered gardening tips which I will be soon using and we showed him our growing berry bushes and fruit trees on our property and on the connecting greenbelt.

Last year I had tea and a nice visit with a PO.com member in Singapore and this June I hope to see him there again as well another and hopefully any other members living or staying in that tidy little gem of a country.

Over the past few years I've also spoken on the phone with several others all of whom seemed level-headed, friendly, and honest. I've additionally pm'ed back and forth with many others, some of whom proved more friendly and/ or sane than others. Can't please everyone, I suppose. All in all, I've found the folks with whom I've communicated here are wonderful sharing a positive mojo determined to learn, prepare, and cultivate a way out of this disaster for themselves and those they love.

EDIT: Anyone from the Portland area is welcome to pm me and arrange for a friendly discussion and a cup of coffee or tea.

I can't believe we're letting this thread fade away. This is maybe the best topic we've had in this section in quite awhile.

Discussing peak oil and all the different facets of this amazing episode in human history is what this board's all about. Meeting with others who share a concern about peak oil in one way or another is a wonderful benefit of being on this site.

Anyhow, it was a drag watching this thread slide into oblivion ...

MD - I was just up that way and my aunt lives in Springfield. We lived there for a few months but things didnt work out. Nice little small town USA really. One of my relatives is a county Sheriff there as well.
Yes the world is small.

Yeah we are down in the foothills with all the Billies ;-) Maybe 2-3 hours to Springfield.

Sorry Eastbay - just caught up in all the mind wars going on here and everywhere 8)

I did not come here believing but quickly developed the thought that alot of people here would want to do something and it seems that alot of them do but to no great organizational end or no end that includes me and mine.
Glad to see the homesteaders and those moving otherwise to alternatives etc etc yet ultimately I think this is going to be bad, very very bad and even the best preps might not be enough. With that in mind I turned my attention toward the Intentional Community boards and we think we have found what we wanted/needed there.

There are plenty of threads like this one so dont feel bad if it dies.
Just exploring the issues of hydrocarbon depletion right?

I'll let you know next time I come to town to visit my brother. But I'd rather go somewhere more mellow than 6th, if that's cool.

What's more mellow than drunks & potheads?
(I kid, I kid)

Yep, I like The Tavern (12th & Lamar) for some laid-back contemplation.
Good skyline view from the patio.

MD,

Yeah, we can make that happen. The best coffee I've found so up here far is right in my kitchen. Other than that there's a few outstanding places the best of which is subject to opinion.

Give me at least one day warning... I'll take you for a tour of the compound too!
