The Friedman article has a number of significant errors. He has made these kinds of errors before, but not so many in one article.

For those who don't know, Friedman is the 'star' of a new Discovery Channel television series about alternative energy sources. I haven't seen it, but he apparently is strongly pushing those green alternatives.

I am not against those alternatives which I think he is promoting (unless he is pushing ethanol), but this just gives the public and especially impressionable young people the idea that our energy problems will be solved by alternative energy sources.

Friedman is a dangerous character. The guy has no principles or beliefs beyond the pure pursuit of greed. He contradicts himself as well, as Kunstler points out. Establishment ingnoramuses like him are going to get knocked stupid in the coming years... The comment he's made that free market forces can overcome the forces of nature speaks volumes of the delusion this fool suffers.

Last thing I remember hearing about good ol Friedman was that he thought the neo-cons would be the driving force for going green. He likes to put a positive spin on the dehumanizing, environment raping exercise known as globalism. Kunstler drips acid when he attacks but the attack is warranted nonetheless.

He actually uses the phrase "new cornucopia of abundance" in his summary on page 11.

Anyway, he did make a couple of valid observations on pages 8 and 9, probably by accident while quoting other people's work. Apart from that, you will be cringing the whole way through. Did you know that cheap energy makes exporting nations so desperate for aid that they will compromise their principles? I think that thought gives him an unhealthy thrill. More here, if you want to listen to it in the background while doing something more productive.
