We're Preparing For a Crisis

Postby Leanan » Sat 14 Apr 2007, 10:21:40

Check out this site:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'N')ow, here's the thing. We eight have come to believe that a crisis is coming – on April 30, to be precise. (An oil shock, or something to do with oil.) We have no proof – it's just something a guy said in an unguarded moment. He may have been putting us on. But we don't think so. We have decided to prepare.

It is a work of fiction. Perhaps some kind of collaborative role-playing game. Interesting idea.

But even more interesting is who's behind it. The Corporation For Public Broadcasting is funding it. In other words, the U.S. government.

Funny you posted this link and it happened to be the first thing i decide to check out this morning. I was just thinking about this site actually. my local peak oil group sent out an email about two weeks ago mentioning this.

i'm curious to see what it is. some kind of online virtual reality game....hmmm

i guess we'll have to wait till april 30..

I thought that was what this site was for.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm starting to get the impression that maybe there's a sort of peak oil underground out there that could be a lot more extensive than any of us realize.

Could it be that there are far more people very much aware of what's coming than we think there are? They're lying low at the moment because they've learned, as we have learned, how they're treated when they go public with their concerns. But perhaps they're going to start emerging from the shadows pretty soon. It could be that when the supply and demand curves finally cross, and the initial shortages begin, we'll see the flood gates open, and a host of closet peak oilers will start yelling from the rooftops.

Thanks to CeeCee.

And thanks for the link Shanny, I am gonna check it out...

Personally, I find this a bit bizarre and it has set off my "spidey sense."

Maybe they want to corral people into online role playing games so they don't step out of line in real life?

In other words, people might respond to these problems in irrational ways if left to their own devices. But if we corral them into playing video games . . .

No.

If that were the case, the traffic on the PO blogs would be in the A or B, not C category.

So we have this crisis coming, and people's response is to play games.

This is exceedingly bizarre.

No way. I've been sounding the alarm bells all over the Net and to everyone I know and many I've never met before. I happened to run into an old friend the other day and did my pitch about PO. He knew exactly what I was talking about (enviromental engineer). This is the ONLY person I've talked to about PO that has a clue.

Preparing for a crisis might be a good idea, if you haven't done so already. The risk of a major shock has been increasing noticeably by the month.
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.
It's not hard to do.

According to the site, "writer guy" is the creator of the game (Ken Eklund). Anyone know anything about him?

Here's a bio on Ken Eklund. His a free lance game writer. I would like to know who asked him to develop this game?

Writer Guy Bio

For example, diseases in "virtual worlds" have been studied to see what could be learned for real world outbreaks.

Virtual Epidemic

I ask this because the CPB is sponsoring the program, so it would be interesting to know why public funds are being used to study this online. Just a thought.

I'd be surprised if even 1 American in 1,000 has any awareness whatsoever of Peak Oil. Unlike global warming, it is not a household word, although that could change in the future.

All the masses know is that gasoline prices are trending higher, for which they blame the oil companies and possibly the intimate connection of Bush with Big Oil.
