The Old Herb Dealer's Store

Postby PenultimateManStanding » Thu 12 Apr 2007, 18:11:52

It's just a few blocks from where I live. They've got everything in the herbal encyclopedia. It's where I get Kava Kava, which produces a mild tranquil feeling. I told the old guy whose store it is about Kratom, the leaf that comes from Thailand. He'd never heard of it and looked in his books and couldn't find it there. I told him about the amazing effects of Kratom, the lucid dreams, the tingling sensitivation of the skin, and how it's been used for centuries to assist in opium withdrawal. He was quite interested and I told him to look it up with Google. It was the dreams enhancement and the tingly skin part that intrigued him. We got to discussing Freud. He regards Freud as a courageous man, as do I. It was funny what he said about Kratom when I told him about it. He got to imagining an orgy where everyone used it. The guy must be getting close to 70. heh heh. His name is Livio and he looks Jewish though I don't know that he is and I didn't ask. Very lively old chap. I told him on an earlier visit about peak oil. His assumption was like most other people's, "technology will fix it". I didn't feel like saying "fat chance for that".

I thought you were talking about a different kind of 'herb dealer' before I clicked this topic.

I can see how you would think that but no, they sell herbal medicine, things like Ma Huang, Mandrake Root, Psyllium, etc. The aroma in the store is very strong. I've learned from experience that old herbal remedies do work. For instance, if you have stiffening joints from uric acid salts deposits, dandelion root will clear it up. No kidding.

There are a lot of 'alternative' medicines that work that the FDA simply refuses to acknowledge. They don't want to cut into the profits of large pharmaceutical giants who help fund their pet programs and political lackeys. On the otherhand, there are also a lot of scams out there too within both areas of medicine, but moreso in the field of alternative medicine.

Wish I had one of the sorts of places you describe near where I live. Kava kava sounds like it would be excellent during sex. Were it legal, I'd bet my bottom dollar he'd sell cannabis too!

I also was of that hope.

I wouldn't worry about the scams. Just get an herbal encyclopedia. The wisdom of the past is preserved, and it's true. As for sex with Kava Kava, I recommend Kratom. The effect it has on the sensitivity of skin is uncanny, and its been used for that purpose for centuries. For some reason which I don't know about, it's illegal in Thailand where the trees grow. But its still legal here.

I busted a rib and some Gok Choi (sp?) from the Five Photos Store in El Cajon really did the job. That Chinese herbal medicine is some interesting stuff, of which I am woefully ignorant. It is definitely knowledge worth carrying into the future. The myriad varieties of plants involved would be worth cultivating where possible as well.

Maybe you should check out this articule on organicconsumers.org
The FDA is trying to regulate supplements, herbs, and also juices as drugs. I really got "off" on that last glass of apple juice!
