What interests me is how on a mass psychological level peoples interests in movies have changed. As in 50 years ago Lassie, Old Yeller and Bogey filled the silver screens.
Today, it seems that the majority of high end movies would have been considered horror in the past and horror movies have become more popular.
Like:
Luke getting his hand cut off by Vader...
Puddles of blood fist fights in action movies (accurate but horrific)
With some of the new horror, Jason and Freddy are starting to look like nice guys!
You walk around Blockbuster in the new releases and it's like half of the new films are horror. Another 25% are scary/bloody. And the remaining are either about chicks/dudes with emotional problems or comedy movies where they can't say a sentence without a swear word!
But I do tip my hat to Adam Sandler for his comedy performance in Click. A stupid movie, but
surprisingly no swearing and well directed. By the way, RV is also a great movie, for understanding just how stupid the average American is!
I probably will see "28 Weeks Later", but I expect rivers of blood typical of any modern Hollywood production. Definitely not White Christmas,
Ahh my point is that I think people had more to look forward to 50 years ago. Now that so many resources and opportunities have been used up, a single income factory worker can't support a family, build a $250,000 house and have money to retire (what both my grandparents did).
Faced with a bleaker reality, people today want bleaker more violent movies that reflect their pain and lack of opportunity.
I also think this movie may offer some incites into some of the bleaker doomer scenarios. And I expect at the end of the movie them to put in a twist, like the disease is spread by the children or child being saved... Bla

But I may see it...
