$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'A') strange and spooky notion, suppose we wind up living under some sort of sinister authoritarian rule without ever even knowing who the leader is. Reminds me of that old TV show The Prisoner. Anybody see that? Patrick McGoohan is trapped on an island where everybody has a number. Whenever he tries to escape this big white flexible ball chases him and brings him back. Nobody really knows who No. 1 is. Whatever is going to go down, or is already going down, will not follow the patterns used in the 20th century. It'll be unexpected and strange, something we won't really understand. Forget about 1984, or Nazis and Fascists and Stalinists. Expect the Unexpected....
Sure helped shape my thinking over the years. Man was it that long ago. I'm just revisiting the series after 38 years
The PrisonerWee blurb about each episode and streaming options.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '&')quot;THE PRISONER" is the most unusual and challenging series ever filmed for television. There has never been anything like it before. It has action and adventure, but of a highly unconventional type. It has some of Britain's most talented and attractive actresses but without romance in the accepted sense. It has only the one leading character, with only one other running role, that of a diminutive butler.
It was devised by Patrick McGoohan himself, who has deliberately set out to create a very different image to that of his successful "Danger Man" ("Secret Agent").
"The Prisoner" is a series that offers more than its tremendous pictorial appeal and intriguing stories; it also provides the viewer with an opportunity to think and not merely observe.
McGoohan has something to say, and it is up to the individual viewer to interpret the series in his own way and to use his imagination. McGoohan says: "I believe passionately in the freedom of the individual" - and "The Prisoner" is basically about the dehumanising, the loss of individuality, which is happening to us all. People are the prisoners of our society. This series is a comment on life.
